Real ID Act and Drivers License

I heard of this in a discussion recently ... Because of the Real ID Act, you now have to prove your physical address with documents such as utility bills when renewing license. For those of you that full time with no physical address ... any discussion on how you are going to renew your divers license?

In Florida our trailer tag is our address on our driver's license.

South Dakota is our legal state residence. We use dakotapost as our mail forwarding service and the address on our license is the dakotapost street address annotated with our personal mail box number. Just renewed our DL in May, no problem.

Seeing as how that act is eleven years old, whatever & whoever was changed, already happened.

Not really! They just started this in New Mexico this past week and the lines and ****** off people have been an issue. They show up with only their license and then have to go back to get all the other forms and info including a utility bill or something to prove you live at that address.

There are a number of states that have yet to comply with the new license requirements, including California and New York, among others. We also got the Real ID compliant license, with the gold star in the corner, which designates it complies, when we went full time in 2012, in South Dakota. The feds were threatening a number of states that their residents with the old ID's would not be able to fly, unless they had another ID, such as a passport. I think they backed off that, but it could change at any time.

Hi

It’s so bad in Florida that they want 2 pieces of mail and the mail you received telling you your driving license is due for renewal is not allowed to be used.

My guess is that most full timers have a postbox etc. I like the concept on making people prove that they are citizens and have a right to get a driver's license.

Hi

Florida will not accept a PO Box for and address. The comment is you don’t live in a PO Box. LOL

Yup, a PO box won't cut it most places. That's why most mail forwarding services give each customer a unique address. Makes it look like you live in an apartment complex.
