“To ski, or not to Ski…”

…”that is the question…”

Hi all. A camp friend was replacing his slideout skis on a Grand Alliance big rig the other day. I asked what that was, and he came to my Montana and said, “weird, you don’t have them!”. We looked underneath, and the woven fabric material had been chewed up by the roller on each end of the living room slide. No sign of ever having skis. The OSB plywood was exposed for about 4” x 24” on each end of the slideout where the roller came into contact. This area also put black dust and debris on the interior carpet whenever it was rolled in.

I cleaned and replaced the damaged area with new “ Skrim” tape from the dealer, but need to do a more permanent fix.

I watched several videos on You Tube on replacing skis and ordered the parts I need to install them, apparently for the first time.

Question: Is there a problem putting skis onto my slideout where there were none from the factory? Was this a factory error or intentional design, and can installing them cause a problem?

Oh, my friend’s rig and both YouTube videos were hydraulic slideouts and mine are electric cable power. Does this matter?

Thanks!

Search this forum for slideout skis. Several threads on this including one that is pretty current.

Member CheckS has put together a video on adding "skis" to your slide. It is Darco Slide Out Bottom Cover Repair Video and can be found here

Thanks! I think I ordered the six inch wide ones (I have six inch rollers) with a ramp on each end ( one end is trimmed to fit). The YouTube installation videos I found seem pretty easy to follow. Sure wish the factory had installed these or metal strips!
