CB channel
We have been traveling from Pensacola heading for Northern CA - in Vegas tonight. Wondering what CB channel Montana owners monitor. We see lots of you out there and would love to say "hey". Our son is Captain of a CA Forestry Hotshot crew and we plan to visit with him & his family before crew training starts 4/23. We will be in Qunicy CA.

If we are traveling by ourselves I monitor 19 as that is what the truckers use. You can find out if there is delays or what. If we are traveling with others we use 13 or if that is too much traffic we will sue one up higher.

MOC has no specific CB channel that I know of...as mentioned use 19 to monitor for up coming route issues although the language used often causes me to turn it off.

When the family is in the vehicle mine is off unless there is a traffic tie up. Then I turn it on (chan 19) and listen to how long the delay might be. I just don't need my wife and grandson to listen to such language.
When traveling with others we use channel 30.

We don't use the CB as much as we once did but it is a very handy tool. We monitor 19 when we feel the need and 13 or 14 when in a campers convoy. Cb goes back a long way. The 27MH bands came into being @1958 but the CB concept goes back into the 40's. A bunch of us at work built our CB's in the very early 60's and had a CB club.. Not much traffic in those days and the range was good (We may have cheated a bit) The language is much better than it once was although there is always the foul mouth out there. We have had the CB in our vehicles for nearly 40 years. It is another tool that can be useful

Well we have two or three Cobra's with the upper and lower channels, they are laying in a box in the out building and haven't used them in years. The nasty talk was just to much. I also had base station and a CB in all the Trucks and Cars when I lived in AZ in the 70's and use them everyday and night. Everytime we get in traffic thats backed up, I think when I get home I will re-install the Cobra but I haven't. I think most RVer's are still running Channel 19 but some are on 13. GBY...

Things have changed on the CB channels..not perfect but changed.. There is not as much chatter now because of other more effective forms of communication and the language has cleaned up a lot. Most of the time the occasional foul mouth is sanctioned by the fellow truckers. Like any other tool we use it when we need it.

Only use it if there is a traffic tie up. As soon as we are past the slowdown, off it goes. Some times I use it to gather weather information from those coming from where I am going. Chit-chat on the CB is long gone.

Thanks for all your replys - we agree about the language, but it does come in handy in traffic tie-ups. We will be sure to go to "13" when we spot a possible MOC member.
For those asking about our son and CDF - he has been with them since 1989 and loves it.
