Gray water tank leak

Has anyone tried plastic welding or repairing the tank or will I be wasting my time? Crack is in the bottom of the tank so it would be subjected to all the weight. Thanks

Rv stores have a patch kit for holding tanks. I patched my gray tank a few months ago. You need to get the tank DRY. Next time I will drain the tank and pull the trailer up on a ramp to run any water away from the crack.

I tried to patch the grey tank with some putty like stuff that came from Wal-Mart. It was like 2 different colors of clay and when it was mixed it started setting up. I thought it would be a real fix, and it was supposed to seal even a gas tank and you could patch it while it was wet. However, it didn't work for me I wound up taking it to the dealer and having the tank replaced.

I have some pictures where I tried to patch the tank on this thread but here is one photo of the patch.

We've had pretty good luck using a radiator patch kit. They are not cheap. I think they are about $15 each. Make sure you are ready to apply because the stuff stiffens up in a hurry. Also be sure and use the fiber glass swatch that comes with it. We had a gray tank leaking and the patch seems to be working fine. It's been about 2 years now since we first applied it.

The patch kit is made by AP Products. I don't think CW carries it.

Well, I have my fingers crossed. The crack was about 1 inch long. I sanded the area & took my soldering iron and "melted" along the crack. That stopped the leak. I still covered the area with "JB Weld" for plastic. I put about 25 gallons of water in the tank and is has not leaked for 2 days now. I'll see how long it will hold.

Mark,

Thank you for posting about the "welding" job. I hope it continues to work for you. Guess I'll finally have to give it a shot.
