Great week in Florida
We just spent a delightful week (and a bit, as the Irish say) at St. Andrews State Park near Panama City, Florida. We had two excellent campsites, one right on the waterfront (Grand Lagoon) and the other just across the street. We had to move because neither site was available for the entire time. You can now reserve specific campsites in Florida state parks using "ReserveAmerica", which is great but also means some moves are necessary if the site is already booked on specific dates. Anyway, we needed to move as our tanks needed to be emptied and the new site had its own advantages. We have been camping at St. Andrews for almost 40 years. It is noted for the fact that most campsites are separated from neighbors by lush tropical vegitation. I could go on, but this should give the picture. Speaking of pictures, here is the view from our Montana in the first campsite on the Lagoon (click if you wish to view):

We are now at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta, Georgia where we have received personal service from the campground manager in locating another ideal campsite. Here is their webpage:

We will take the Montana home next week.

Hello David and Shirley,
Glad to see you are out travelling. Your post on Florida makes us want to try that state again. Generally we have been avoiding Florida, but maybe we should take another look.
Thanks for the info, and travel safely.

David & Shirley, If we weren't leaving in the morning on our vacation, we'd come up for the weekend and visit! We will probably be going to Stone Mtn Park sometime this summer for a weekend getaway. Any suggestions on a good site number would be nice.

We could not be more happy than we are with this site: # 288. The best part is our strong WIFI signal. It is NOT free, unfortunately, but it is good. The adjoining sites should be similar in internet coverage. As a general rule we have found the pull-through sites some of the very worst in this particular park (we tried 2 this time--very unlevel and utility connections impossible). Level sites have not been a priority here, but this is a unique family park (I mean Stone Mountain Park, not just the RV campground). Today we enjoyed alost every "attraction" in the park including sky ride to the top of the Stone Mountain, Riding the train, a trip on the Riverboat, and a truly unique 4-D theater experience.
ADD note to OntMont: The part of Florida we most often visit is really Southern Alabama! Pensacola is closer to Houston than it is to Miami. Maybe that makes a big difference.
ADD note to wifeofdano: Sure would have enjoyed a visit. Maybe next time. We also missed a visit with Wordsmith this time.

Thanks David,
We do often go to Southern Alabama, mostly around Gulf Shores, but recent hurricane damage has discouraged us. We will probably go back in the fall and maybe explore a little further east.
Oops, just checked, St Andrews S.P. does not allow pets, (now I remember why we tend to stay away from Florida).

Ontmont, St. Andrews does allow pet now, they started allowing them this past February.
Padredw, we have been volunteering at St. Andrews for 5 years, it is a great place to camp and one of the few you can actually camp on the water. Hope all went well and they treated you nice.

Well that is good to hear! Maybe voting with your feet (or wheels in this case) does work. On a similar note, I heard a municipality (in AZ I think) recently recinded a "no RV parking" by-law because people were simply not stopping there at all.
