Hot water tank on electric/gas

If no one is using the hot water does the tank when set to dual fuel run on electric and when it cannot keep up gas comes on or does it run both all the time. 2019 montana

On both on mine, electric keeps the water hot without starting on propane. Propane only comes on when using a lot of hot water such as taking a shower.

On propane only our water would sometimes fire up on propane during the night. And being near our bedroom window, very annoying. But operating on both it doesn’t do that.

It depends on how close the thermostats are calibrated. If one is slightly different from the other, the one that is calibrated at a lower temperature will come on first, whether it be the gas or the electric. For just maintaining hot water, just turn off the gas if you are connected to shore power, as there is no need to keep both turned on. If you are dry camping, just run on gas only and you will be fine.

Thanks for input, pretty much works like I thought.
