South Texas Campground Info

Looking for recommendations for a campground in South Texas. Possibly San Antonio - Austion area or San Antonio - Corpus Area. May stay a month or more. I realize availability will be an issue. If not this year then next.
Thanks in advance ... Newbie

Hi Tazman51: We were fulltimers from Alberta, Canada, for the last 14 years. We have visited friends in Texas 3 times. The RV parks that we enjoyed most were Alamo Fiesta RV, just north west of San Antonio and Lake Medina RV a bit North in " Hill Country ". Lake Medina is a bit of a challenge to get to but well worth the trip. Wonderful people at the RV office. Just our thoughts.
Happy trails.
Golfer Dave.

We have stayed at Travelers World in San Antonio and would again. Been a few years but it was popular with snowbirders when we were there. Easy access to downtown (Riverwalk, Alamo, Mercado, mission trail, museums, etc) as the street in front goes straight downtown. Bus stop in front to downtown if you prefer not to drive.

south TX

For San Antonio - we have always stayed at the KOA.
Travelers Village looks nice and is in a good location but we have never stayed there.
If you search this forum I think some folks have recommended Braunig Lake RV which is southeast of town.

We have not stayed at any places in Corpus. We have stayed at several at Port Aransas and Aransas Pass/Rockport.
Gulf Waters is very nice. Stayed there 15 yrs ago with dogs and a kid and came away thinking they had lots-LOTS of rules and we felt a bit out of place...but it's a very nice place.
We have stayed at Pioneer and Marina Beach (now called LaFite's Hideaway) most often.
Port A RV, Tropic Island, Island RV, Surfside all look nice but we have never stayed there.
There are lots of nice places in Aransas Pass and Rockport but the only one we have stayed at is Drifters and it's a good one!

South Texas Park

Thanks for all the recommendations. Certainly gives me something to work with. Hopefully I'm not too late in the season to arrange something for the winter.

Just an FYI. Austin is not really "South Texas." If you are looking to be in the Hill Country take a look at Kerrville, Johnson City, or Fredericksburg.

Coastal Breeze is just over 1 yr. old, nice all paved right on the water (Salt Lake) which connects to Copano Bay. Located about 5 minutes from Rockport and about 20-30 minutes north of Corpus Christi. We have stayed at many other parks within 3-30 miles away and this is our pick for our next time in that area. We spent a week there in late Sept. You will be just a short drive (15 min) from Aransas Pass and you can drive onto a ferry for a 5-10 min. pleasant ride over to Port Aransas for sight seeing. The only negative in my opinion is it seems they got stingy with the pavement and the roads are slightly narrower than I would expect for such a nice new park.

For San Antonio look at Blazing Star and Admiralty RV Park-both near the SeaWorld area, close to major freeways (but not on them) and plenty of restaurants, shopping, grocery stores nearby. I live in San Antonio. Gulf Waters is nice, and has lots of rules, but it is one of the nicest RV parks I have ever stayed in with easy walk to the beach access.

River Bend in Luling, TX. It is in a small town about an hour south of Austin and an Hour east of San Antonio. Large Grassy parking area. We loved it this past summer.

We've been staying at Drifters Resort in Rockport for 10 years. We love it. This area is pretty immuine from the freezing and snow which you might encounter a little farther North and West. If you can't get into Drifters, Majestic Oaks is a recently expanded park just SW of Drifters. Ask what happens to your deposit. Some don't return it.
