Devil's Tower

We were very much in awe today as we saw and experienced Devil's Tower, WY. The varied wildlife, the fantastic rock formations, the pure air, the combination of myths and scientific facts surrounding this area - mere words fail me in trying to explain it all. The day was capped off by the discovery of a GREAT restaurant in Aladdin, WY (population 50). When we first arrived at Mountain View CG in Sundance, the owner told us of this restaurant and her mouth seemed to be drooling as she talked about. This was probably the best restaurant food we have had. It lives up to its claim of "Home Cookin'" All is home made and great. It is located in a general store and motel/cabin combo that says it is 115 years old. The General Store even has the sign in the front telling cowboys to scrape the s*** off their boots before entering. Since things always get better, we can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

I love the Indian story about how Devil's Tower was formed when the god's raised that part of the land to save some children from a dangerous bear.

The place is definitely breathtaking. I remember the route we took when we could see it in the distance then it kept reappearing ever so larger as we got closer. Truly amazing. The thing makes no sense even with the theories as to why it's there and how it got there, like the rest of the earth just dropped a few hundred feet and forgot that part.

I'd like to get to the top to see it Steven Spielberg's alien locating equipment is still up there.

That's one of the must-sees in Wyoming.

Thanks for the travel log boylanag. I'll go check out David's and Jo-anna's soon.

Can not wait to start fulltiming. That is one place that is a MUST to return to. The walk around the base was easily handled and well worth the time.

This is really a beautiful area. We camped at the KOA right outside the entrance gate in 2001 on our way to Mt. Rushmore. Looking forward to returning to the area after we retire and will definitely look into that campground and restaurant next time through.

We were there in 2003. Stayed at the KOA at the base of Devil's Mountain. It was $30.00 a night then. A nice park. You coould see it from a long way off. Amazing the looks of it as you get closer and from different angles. Would like to have caught thos places that boylanag talked about. But as usual we were in a hurry and just got over the "Battle of Bad Tires". Hope to do it again. It is well worth going to see. We missed ET somewhere. Well, maybe next time.
Have A Good Day

We have plans to be at Devil's Tower over Memorial weekend. Even though we only live a couple of hours from there, we have never been to it.
The trip is going to be the first outing in our new 2010 3455SA and we are anxious to try it out.

Dwstockman, don't forget to go to Cindy B's Restaurant in Aladdin, next to the General Store. You will not be disappointed.

Yip, can't say enough about the area. Been there several times over the years. Took the kids there inthe 80's, was there in 2000 with the folks, and again in 2005 with one of the grand kids. Have driven up and down I-90 about 8 times in the last 15 years since our oldest moved to Montana in '94. Saw it from a distance again just 2 weeks ago on our way home from an enother Montana visit. Got to do it 2 more times in the next 5 years. May be cheaper to just move there. What do you think?

You bet it is a good move. Last post was short story. We moved to Rapid City in '78 when I was on active duty. Stayed there 9 years till '87 when we moved back home to Ind. for the folks. Now retired again and can mostly go when I want.
