Warranted forever

Hi I bought my Monty from a dealer who charges 198.00 per year to provide a lifetime warrantee on some of the items on my trailer. They said they go through the entire trailer, water heater, refrigerator, wheel bearing greasing and more.

I have found from previous life experiences that a warrantee of this nature my or may not be worth it. I am curious what others think. It means my trailer has to be taken 70 miles to the dealer, then back to my home site. So the 198 becomes more like 200.00 with fuel and I lose a least a week of camping. I would like to know if others feel this is worth it or not. More specifically I would like to hear from the seasoned owners who have years of trailer use.

Thanks John

I would be more interested in understanding what a "lifetime warranty" is and exactly what it covers.

I warrantee every thing we make for life, no change. If you die soon enough.
Seriously I would read the fine print.

Seriously we can warranty our products for life. They are designed to last a long time. They are simple mechanical products not like a camper that can’t be made to last a lifetime, unless of course you die soon enough.
There is something they don’t wont you to know. How often do you haft to take it back for service and how much will that cost? If you miss the date you were supposed service it by even a day what will happen?

I have one of these from our dealer as well. It does not cover everything nor does the inspecting dealership or techician check "everything." There are definite exclusions in the fine print. In our case I can take the rig to any dealer to perform the annual inspection. I do not have to go to the selling dealer, which is a good thing since I most likely won't be in the geographic area. What I like about it is the fact that I get another set of eyes to find things I might not have noticed or missed. What I don't like about it is that I don't trust the process. I think it is mean to generate revenue for the inspecting dealership.

The items covered in the Lifetime Warranty are 4 major type inspections; Inspect roof and seal roof where necessary, Inspect axle and hub, lube where necessary, inspect furnace-clean blower, chamber, control compartment, test for gas leaks and Inspect hot water heater. All this for a small fee of $128. I believe the next part has three more categories that ca be added to the warranty inspection areas for a not so little fee. Gold package, red package etc. Each year since 2017, I have needed to get a major item repaired and that is main reason they have been done on time. I'm not sure I want to continue booking the appointments out 3 months just to be on time this year as PNW points out. Besides, I'm getting disc brakes real soon at the MOC Rally.

Is the $128 a single payment or is it every year?

We have this coverage and it covers mfg installed appliances such as A/C units, WH, Furnace, auto levelers, refrigerator, Convection/microwave, oven & cooktop, etc. If repairs are done at selling dealer there is no deductible but if done elsewhere there is $100 deductible. We are full timers so I make an appointment well in advance with our dealer only about 30 minutes away. They have us in/out in 2-2.5 hours. Haven't had to file a claim so can't rate on such.

Seems a like pretty low a premium for the offered coverage. What is the deductible portion that you would be required to cover in the event of a repair? Are you sure it isn't per month? FWIW, anything that sounds too good to be true... usually isn't worth the paper it must be written on.

JMHO.

See my comment above and the cost is annual not monthly.

Personally, I would not sign up for it. I can inspect and do almost all repairs myself. Even a slide cable repair thanks to the fix Lynwood designed and built and was kind enough to send to several of us. Doubt seriously $198 per year would replace a refrigerator, AC, or a roof. Those three are the big ticket items.

The payment is for the annual inspection and varies by dealer. The warranty is "free".

And I agree it is nice having a second set of eyes looking at things.

You slipped you comment in while I was typing mine. Now, I'm curious about this item... will have to read further on it.

The cost is for the annual inspection. IMHO the fridge is the weak link. The cost of replacement alone is worth the price to me. However I am leaning toward an preventive measure of changing to a dc compressor from JC Refrigeration. I am certain the warranty will not cover this. I still think it is worth it to have a second set of eyes follow my inspection.

If the Forever warranty is from Noble RV in MN, don't buy it, we did years ago and they would not cover anything, always an excuse, even the inspection stuff on purchase took over 6 weeks to get it back, summer was over the first year before real use, then next year, many issues on Forest River product, roof, siding, kitchen floor etc... they covered nothing. We paid to fix then sold it.

Sounds to me like they're charging you 200 a year to bring it to them to find things that "aren't covered".
Also read the fine print, likely if you skip a visit your 'warranty' is void.

Yes if you skip an annual inspection the jig is up.
