Square Footage Curiosity
I am curious what the square footage of the various Monty floorplans might be. I suppose I could do the measuring and math for my unit (3295), but something tells me that one of you has already done it. Hopefully my laziness isn't too obvious.

If I'm not mistaken, the total square footage cannot exceed 500 square feet. Once the unit goes over that amount, then its considered a "mobile home" with a whole bunch of restrictions placed upon it---especially here in California. I know this does not answer your question, but at least if your calculations exceed 500 square feet you made have made an error in measurements.

I agree that there is a limit on square footage, but I thought it was 400 sqft, not 500. But then again, I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong, I didn't! I seem to remember some ads for other brands that talked about getting the maximum square footage in the shortest length by using more slide-outs. I'd like to know the square footage of our 2980, but haven't gotten around to doing the math.

I doubt if any of the Montanas are much over 400 square feet even with the slides out. I figured my 2850RK was right at 300 sq. ft. opened up.
Now, be aware you may not want to divide the price you paid for your rig by the square foot measurement unless you're sitting down! Although some say you can't take it with you, in this case I guess we can if we're hooked up!

On the same vain, try figuring the cost per sq ft on your auto if you really want a shock..

I also remember 400sqft as the upper limit for an RV.

Yeah, and they both continue to depreciate in value as we think about it. How depressing!

Just decided to do the math on our 3295.
34' interior length to the closent wall behind the mirror x 8' wide
one 12' x 2' slide out (kitchen)
one 12' x 3' slide out (couch/dinette)
one 5' x 2' slide out (bedroom)
34 times 8 = 272 sq ft
12 times 2 = 24 sq ft
12 times 3 = 36 sq ft
5 times 2 = 10 sq ft
Total = 342 sq ft

Thanks Glenn, I needed that. Haven't seen one of those in years. We're picking up our Monty tomorrow afternoon from another extended visit at the dealer. Finally got the central vac installed, the one that the factory "forgot" to put in. They also got us a new entry door as ours was scorched by the heater vent on our first trip (they moved the heater to right behind the door on the '05 2980s to give extra room under the kitchen counter), and they installed a new water pump and isolated/insulated some of the water lines. Our pump was sounding like a jake-brake. I intend to measure the square footage while were on our weekend trip.

I have not measured our 3400RL, but per Keystone it is 400 square feet; the max allowable for an RV. I am sure that is computed with all four slides extended.

I do stand corrected. The maximum square footage is 400 not 500. I just received a reply from Keystone and the 3295 tapes out at 380 square feet.

There's an article in the current issue of Highways (the Good Sam Club magazine) about a new 5er from Nu Wa (I think) that is 40' long and has 5 slides. They make the point that it has 400 sq. ft. of space, the maximum for a travel trailer of any kind.
