Do you run with the fridge on?
I didn't but Bingo schooled me on the positives so I now do and have for over 2 years without a glitch.

Don't run refrig while traveling. It is just a big cooler and run it only when at campsite. And also it is against federal law to run while traveling.

It all depends on the duration of our travel day and what the temperature outside is.
Majority of times I leave it off and never have had a problem. We too have freezer packs in the freezer and frig.

I'm curious if the people that run with their fridge or furnace on all the time leave it on when they are fueling up. I guess if you have a pilot light or flame on while fueling get ready for a big bang. There was a issue a few years ago when a fellow had his fridge or furnace running when he was fueling somewhere in the western USA (can't remember where anymore) and there was an ignition and fire.

As to fueling, sort of depends on Gas or Diesel and regular pumps or truck pumps. Gas fumes are very explosive Diesel is not. We generally use the truck lanes which means the RV is quite a ways back from the pumps so I don't see much risk. Now when we had a TT pulled by a gasser that was a different story, stop back from the pumps, go in and turn fridge off, pull away from the pumps and turn fridge back on. This is our preference and not recommended for everyone.

If I am correct, the fridge and furnace both have an electric ignition, therefore, no flame pilot.

When we are in transit, the fridge is always on. The comment about diesel versus gasoline is accurate. Not promoting the practice to others, but what we elect to do, we will continue doing.

We run with fridge and furnace on and do NOT turn either off when we are at the pump or go through tunnels. We are not aware of any federal law about running with it on and as the saying goes 'ignorance is bliss'! During the winter the refrigerator is a big cooler and we don't run it while driving because it is not necessary. During 100degree weather we ALWAYS run it!
We have a diesel truck and use regular pumps. As Ozz said in another post we have seen the Myth Busters episode where they had a heck of a time getting the stuff to ignite. Like Bingo said, not promoting the practice to others, just what we do. We did purchase a halogen system to install in the back of the fridge for extra protection because my son sleeps next to the fridge on the couch.
Interesting to see everyone else's point of view! As always!!! Nice thing is on this forum there usually aren't any judgements passed on others just information shared...okay...okay...so most of you 'turn offers' are probably thinking we are idiots...but at least you aren't typing it out loud!!! We may reevaluate our position after reading other posts! That is the beauty of this forum!

Fridge always on. As mentioned, diesel is not explosive. Much like charcoal lighter fluid you pour it on something, hold a match to it, and it slowly start to burn. I often use it to start a brush burn pile on some acreage I own.

Having been in the fire service it is not something you hear of a lot, in fact I don't know of any cases of a trailer blowing up at the pumps from frigs or water heaters or furnaces. Can it happen, sure, but I think people getting in and our of their cars and static electricity blow themselves up at the pump more the frigs. Always touch the pump if you get in your car and then out before you touch the nozzle. I would think for a frig to ignite vapors you would have to spill a lot of gas. Also cars, espcially older cars generate sparks and electrical arcs when you turn the key. So for the past 30 years I have traveled with the frig on and in some cases the water heater when it gets left on.

I have always pulled with mine on. 1 tt and 3 5ers. I cut it on a couple days before we leave and it runs till the DW unloads it when we get home. The fridge uses a pilot to cool on gas and a element to cool on electric. the furnace has an electric igniter. JMHO

We shut the propane off when moving and only turn it on when stationary. We have a couple of cold blocks in the freezers and have never had the temp in the frig out of the forties even on 100 degree days. No reason for us to run it.
