Upgrade radio Antenna in `14 Montana
I can't remember the brand of radio installed in my 2014 Mountainier but it's standard. How can I upgrade the antenna so I can improve reception. The unit is installed above my fireplace and TV

you'll have to get behind the radio to see what is back there. then, assuming there is a connected antenna, try moving the antenna around. it will also depend on what type of connector your radio has for the antenna if you want to go try another antenna.
from my experience, most of the am/fm stations don't work very well on rv radio/cd sets.

There very well may be nothing connected for a radio antenna. There wasn't anything on our home theater system. I put a simple dipole behind the fireplace and there was a world of difference.

A bit of wire is mostly what is there...and it will just be laying in a bundle. John

That's exactly what I found. An antenna wire all rolled up. I unrolled it and stretched it out behind the TV. No difference in reception. I can get FM ok but AM is a joke. Will remove Jensen unit to see what other terminals are back there and then check at Best Buy to see if they have any other antena options that might help.

That short bit of wire is for FM and is a poor replacement for a dipole antenna, which can be up to 4 1/2 feet long (and is sensitive to orientation), or a vertical antenna, like on your truck, that can be up to 2 feet long.
An AM antenna is so long that it is usually wrapped in a loop or wound around a ferrite rod to keep it manageable in size, but also sensitive to orientation. You could get a vertical antenna for AM for much better reception, but now you're starting to look retro. A separate AM radio that you can move around for best reception is probably the best idea.

This is the first RV I have owned that comes with a radio, but the company is too cheap to install an antenna. Have any of you found a good FM or AM antenna. I suppose we could mount a car antenna if need be. The TV antenna should be able to do some good for an FM antenna?

The TV antenna should improve the FM reception unless they've blocked the FM band to prevent interference with the adjacent TV channels. A passive splitter (cheap) might give you a better FM signal but could make weak TV signals worse. In that case, and amplified splitter (somewhat more expensive) would be a better bet; larger and needs access to ac, though.
A car antenna might be the simpler way to go, but they need to be mounted on a metal surface to work best.

When I had my diesel pusher, it came with a vertical antenna just for radio. Have seen some fivers with a rubber ducky antenna mounted on the wall of a slideout where their entertainment center was. Me, I found that I get better fm reception on my tiny apple ipod nano than my stereo in the home theater system. So I just enjoy the nano when I want music from the radio. John
