Replacing Refrigerator
Has anyone replaced their refrigerator with a household type?
I understand it wouldn't run on gas while towing but are there any other negatives?

Lance, there is a couple of discussions presently going on about traveling with a residential frig.
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=65389
Can it be done, You bet. You need to understand the current requirements the frig has, you will need a inverter to operate it while not plugged in.
If you do any dry camping, IE: no shore power, probably not a practical option. If you only travel from the house to the lake 2-3 hours, probably a OK thing.

I have helped a neighbor replace his. Not difficult as long as you size correctly. Residentials hold the cold far better than rv. units, and quickly get cold when turned on, so lack of propane (minus an inverter) is not an issue. Far cheaper. I see no downside although my wife would miss the wooden door inserts matching the cabinetry.

Even if you don't boondock, if you just overnight at truck stops, or Walmart it could be an issue if you don't have the proper battery set up and inverter. A number of folks have done it and are happy with it, others, as you see on some of the threads here, not so much.

We will go that direction with an inverter if this Dometic should fail again. Thanks to member cw3jason we have the model numbers of the fridge and inverter they are currently using in the new models.

Found the inverter info it's made by WFCO and model #WF-5110H
Hope this helps for future reference.

The first thing to check is to see if it will fit in the door. We know some folks who put one in a motor home, it had to go through the windshield.

We replaced ours with a resi fridges 3 years ago. Runs off a 1000W Inverter, 6ea. T105 batteries and 4 ea. 140W solar panels. Best thing we ever did. We fulltime and boondock 60% of the time.

I am in the precess of doing just that, right now. The cabinet is prepped and ready. Were just waiting for it to arrive. We live in ours for now so were not worried about it working going down the road anytime soon.
