sorry another TV/5ver weight question

Hi Everyone, sorry I know you get this question often. I am afraid we might of made a mistake. I tried everything to figure this out. I used the chart on the ford site, door stickers, etc. But can't figure out if we are going to be ok pulling this 5ver. The dealer said we are fine, but I guess we can't trust the dealer. Can someone make me feel better. I hate to go back and say... no deal. I also realize the RV is an estimate and these numbers are different when we consider what is in the 5ver and in the truck.

5ver is a 2014 Mountaineer 310Ret shipping weight=11130, Carrying capacity=3165, and hitch weight 2295 (from website, don't have a picture of the sticker.

TV is 2008 Ford F350 super crew 4x4-sticker reads GVWR 11000lb, front gawr=4800 rear gawr=7000-nothing else on the sticker indicates weights.

The ford site states a GCWR=23000, maximum trailer is 15,900

The first problem is knowing what the actual loaded pin weight will be. Maybe someone here with a similar weight model who has weighed theirs can provide their number. But everyone loads different. Some load everything but the kitchen sink. Others load the bare minimum. But you can probably expect the loaded pin weight to be a few hundred pounds more than the empty pin weight.

On the door column, probably below that sticker, there should be another sticker labeded tire and loading information. On that sticker there will be a statement to the effect, do not load more than xxxxxx lbs. That will be the stated cargo carrying capacity of the truck.

Then just a matter of matching up the numbers.

Go on line and look at the 2008 tow capacities for your truck. I did, and suspect when you see them, your question will be answered and you may not like the answer from a legal compliance perspective.

The ford website states for a 6.8L V10 SWR --we can tow a 15,900# fifth wheel. My sticker has no Total Weight on it, unless there is another sticker somewhere else besides on the drivers door jamb.

Here's what I do, if I'm wrong I'd love to know because I've been doing it this way for years. I always estimate using max trailer weight and aim to stay below that in real life.

First I don't think the 23000 GCWR is correct for your truck, I believe you have the 4.10 rear end which puts you at 21000 (http://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/...TTgdeSep08.pdf) but if it is 23000, the number you are missing is your truck curb weight loaded. Your truck base curb weight is approx 6900 (from the ford website https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...0-450_08bb.pdf which can only be verified by a CAT scale) with the weight of hitch, passengers and whatever else is in the truck which will probably put you at roughly 7400lbs give or take. The only way to know for sure is weight the truck at a CAT Scale. Once you know the actual curb weight subtract curb weight from both GCWR and GVWR to determine how much trailer you can haul.

With the estimate above and your numbers from the original post.
GCWR:
23000 - 7400 = 15600 for max total trailer weight
GVWR:
11000 - 7400 = 3600 for max pin weight

Again you should verify your actual curb weight to determine actual carrying capacities but given the estimated numbers you'd be just under your GCVWR and GVWR if 23k GCWR is correct and if you don't overload your trailer where pin weight is estimated at 20% of fully loaded trailer to max GCWR (please check my math it is 1am lol):

GCWR - CurbWeight - TotalTrailerWeight = Spare Capacity
23000-7400-(11130+3165) = 1305lb
GVWR - CurbWeight - PinWeight = Spare Capacity
11000-7400-((11350+3165)*.20) = 697lb spare capacity

Again, a CAT scale reading of the truck with passengers/hitch/gear will go a long way. Pin weight is usually the biggest challenge with a SRW. Until you load the trailer and pull it to the CAT scale you wont know for sure but this should give you an idea how to work the numbers.

Hi

My TV is rated for 23,500 lbs GCW. The trailer is marked 15,901 Lbs gross weight.

With the TV full of fuel and all the stuff we must have in the TV we can only load the trailer to 15,500 lbs to avoid being overweight.

I noted you mentioned it has a V10 - that's a gas engine, not diesel? If so, that could be your problem. The chassis of your truck is strong enough, but I doubt its engine will handle the load.

As always, being a seasonal RVer I'd like to point out ... if you're not going to be a full timer ... you'll never see anywhere close to the worrisome 15,900# "got everything I own in it plus the neighbor's Basset Hound" weight.

I guess we should have went with the high country... maybe we might have to go back and see if we can deal. We really don't want to put out another 60K for a new truck. We bought ours new and got an amazing deal, taken great care of the truck with only 68,000 miles. Plus no payments

Look at the Tire and Loading Information sticker...it's a different sticker on one of the driver's door frames. It will give you the max cargo capacity to the nearest one pound.

No Rocky Mountains in North Dakota, just Turtle Mountains... this is where I live but they are more like little hills.

I believe we are over... I really don't get it, why post the numbers if everything has to be weighed anyway. It is not like we can go to the car dealer and say... hey we want to take a truck home, load it like we are going camping, then drive it on over to the rv dealer and say hey can I take this 5ver out for a test drive and while I am at it install a 5th wheel hitch. Oh and we are going to load a whole bunch of stuff in it to get the pin weight. Makes no sense to me at all.

When we are loaded for our winter in state travel we weigh 23,300 Lbs.

When we do the long distant like we did in 2010 we weight 23,300 Lbs.

When we do our other travels we are 1,000 Lbs lighter at 22,300 Lbs. This is because we don’t carry the steam locomotive on our business trips.

We have the trailer loaded like we would if we went full time.

You might want to go to the Trailer Life Towing guides and look up your truck. http://www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides/

As others have said, weigh your truck. Get actual weights loaded with you and whatever else you take. Full fuel, wife, dog, tools, etc. Now take the trailer GVWR figure 20-23% for pin weight. Add the estimated pin weight to the actual rear axle weight. Look at the sticker on the truck, you can not weight over the GVWR or any axle GAWR.

I have a 2013 Mountaineer - 362. I bought it because it had the lowest (close anyway) pin weight on any Montana or Mountaineer (and maybe the High country too). It was listed at 2070 I think. Actual pin weight is around 2500. I had a Montana 2980 previously that listed a pin of around 2460 and actually was around 2800+. So I would be pretty confident that yours would be 400 above the listed weight. Unless you have the washer/dryer in the front as I would think that would bump things up.
I agree having a gasser instead of diesel may leave you undersized. A diesel would be no problem with a F350 in my opinion.
