DOOR LOCK RECALL !!

I am looking to upgrade the locks on all my outside storage compartments. In doing my research I came across a recall notice for the FIC door locks that are used on our camper entry doors. If you are not the original owner and you purchased your camper used, like I did, you will not receieve any recall notices. Here is the basic info on the recall. I will also insert a link with the complete info on the recall and what to do. I contacted them and my camper is effected by the recall. I own a 2012 3750FL. They are sending me 2 sets of lock cylinder for both my entry doors. Here is the basic info on the recall:

Under normal use and operation, the key to the deadbolt lock can only be removed in the 12 o’clock (neutral) and 3 o’clock (unlocked) positions. In certain FIC locks made between January 1, 2006 and April 30, 2013, the key may be able to also be removed from the deadbolt cylinder when the key is in the 9 o’clock position. This condition may cause the deadbolt to jam, which could prevent occupants inside the trailer from being able to unlock the door from the inside and exit the trailer through the door, requiring them instead to use the emergency exit and potentially increasing the risk of injury.

Here is the link to the complete recall notice.

I have a 2013 3402.
Looked at the link and my lock is recalled.
Called their 800 number, gave my vin# and key code. A new one is on its way.
Very easy.
Thanks for the info.

I read the recall notice and my key is on the recall list, but the key on the list opens and locks the storage compartments. The key that locks the coach entry door has a single letter and three numbers no where near the list numbers. The entry door key will come out on the 12:00 and 3:00 position but not in the 9:00 position.

We bought our camper last year used and I just figured the lock was worn out. It easily is removed in the 9:00 position. I went to the link and sure enough, my number is on the list. Filled out the online form and suspect I'll have a new lock and key coming soon. Thanks, DmaxDually for the information.

Ours was on the list. Went to their site, filled out the recall form, new set on the way in about 3 weeks. Thanks DmaxDually for the headsup!

You're welcome everyone. I'm just glad I could help. This is just one of the many reasons we belong to the MOC . I'm sure these locks were used by alot of other RV manufacturers also. Please tell anybody else you know or meet at a camp ground who owns a camper no matter what brand it is to check just to be safe.

I had them replaced on my SOB and it was easy to do. Haven't checked out the Monty yet.

You probably don't have an FIC lock. If you look at your key it probably says Global Link. That's a different company and not affected by the recall. I called FIC to confirm.

It's odd that the storage key has the letters and numbers HF 315 on it, the exact numbers on the recall list.
The key also has FIC letters on the holding part of the key.

Here's what they say to "test" your locks and see if they are operating properly:

"If you can remove the key in 9 o’clock position while the deadbolt is engaged, your cylinders need to be
replaced with a new set of cylinders as part of the recall program."

THEN, it goes on to say right below that:

"You should not under any circumstances engage the deadbolt and remove the key from the deadbolt cylinder in the 9
o’clock position as this may cause the deadbolt to jam..."

Did I read that right??!!?? How do I test it if I am not EVER supposed to do it?

Unfortunately, there was no notification sent out on this recall and the only way people are learning about it word of mouth or by stumbling across the website notice. It was posted here last year, and I changed our locks back then. It's an easy process.

Thanks for this info. I never received a recall notice. Wrote to Keystone to find out why. I'll check later today on the locks.

Two keys.. One key works the Deadbolt.. the other works both the lock below and all/most of the compartment doors.

Why, Keystone... WHY didn't we all get the notice?

I just read some additional information on another forum reference these lock recalls. Apparently the recall was from early 2013. There was so many that have been recalled that they are currently attempting to process ones sent in around March, 2014 at this time. Earlier this year folks were waiting 6 months or longer for the replacements!

So I guess this is a real big vote of confidence to Keystone that they will stay right on top of safety issues and offer recalls immediately and efficiently? I guess the answer seems to be "NO!" They want us to figure it out ourselves I guess.

I was concerned.. per my above comment. I wrote Keystone and the reply said all recalls are based on VIN number. Sure enough.. I went down and tried my keys and they work as they are supposed to. One thing I found out.. a real DUH moment.. I was locking the wrong lock when we left the RV. I "ass-u-me-d the dead lock was the upper lock.. I now know better.
