Ford 6.7 issues

I had priced an extended warranty on my F350 but had not purchased one. A couple weeks ago (34,000 miles) my transmission pan started leaking so I had to take it in for a new gasket. Yesterday it started leaking what I think is power steering fluid (34,900 miles) from around front left axle area. Taking it back to Ford dealer Monday. Now I need to start my research all over again on warranties. I recall the top-of-line Ford extended was over $3,000. I need to find one prior to 36,000 miles which I will turn while completing my trip north next month. Any suggestions (besides trading for a Chevy or Dodge!)

Call your dealer where you purchased and talk to them about the price of a Ford extended warranty. Price is negotiable.

$3000... Wow... I just got a 5 yr extended warranty which will take it to well over 100k miles for only $1600 and is pretty much bumper to bumper and the truck already had 43k miles on it. It is a Mopar warranty too. I would get on one of the Ford diesel forums and ask those guys who and where to go with. At $3000 that should be a 10 warranty. I usually go for shorter warranties cause most likely I'll trade it before then just like my last truck....If I do keep it I most warranties give you the option to extend it as long as you are still covered.......Either way it does sound like you have one of those trucks where you are gonna make your money back on a warranty unfortunately....

X2 Ken's recommendation. Hands down, they have the best price on a Ford backed warranty. They will send you a price list you can choose from. The 7 year/100,000 mile/$100 deductible Premium (covers everything) seems to be the most popular for ~$1800. Take that offer to your local Ford dealer and they cough, choke, and say they can't match it. It doesn't matter where you buy it, Ford backs it anywhere you decide to get help. But buy the Ford warranty, not some third party one. There is a huge difference in coverage as some here can tell you.

Ken and Carl, you are right on the Ford Extended Warranty. I went to that site and they are now quoting the 7 yr/100,000 mile top warranty for $1,900.00. I printed it but the dealer down here where I am will have to beat the price because if I purchase on-line from that Ohio dealer I don't pay sales tax. Not sure if this Florida dealer would add sales tax or not. I will keep searching (diesel/Ford forums like Dave suggested) but I am leaning toward a Ford warranty especially if I can stay below $2,000.

Thanks for that link. That 7 yr 100,000 mile would work great for me since I only put about 12,000 per year now that I am retired.

Both Ken and I got that link from one of the Ford forums (specifically http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php). There are several references there but this seems to be the most popular.

Yes, but remember your Ram has a single squirrel cage, Fords have 2 with corn fed squirrels! Better squirrels, better performance, higher maintenance! Any questions? Lol

The 7 year Ford warranty sounds bout right...$1900 don't sound too bad for that one. I would stay with a Ford warranty too. The service mgr told me that the Mopar warranty gives them the least amount of hassles. And Artemus if them squirrels ain't reliable it's time to shoot em.....lol lol

Dropped off the truck for repair and then talked to warranty person. Showed him my printed papers showing I could get the Ford ESP Premium 7 yr/100,000 mile warranty on-line for $1,900. He took my information and gave me a price of $3,500. Then he said I probably could not get the one through the Troy dealer because I did not live in Ohio. Told him that was not true and other folks had purchased it and they had not lived in Ohio. Then he said I would have to pay sales tax and I corrected him again and told him my address was in Illinois and they tried to pass such a law on internet tax collection and failed. Got back to campground, went on-line and purchased the Ford ESP for a total of $2,070.00. They broke down the price a little more if your mileage was between 0 and 12,000, and then again 12,000 to 36,000, plus the rental car added on was $70.00. Still, after all my research last night I am convinced this was the best warranty for me at the best price. Thanks Ken for giving me that site, you saved me about $1,500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up my ride and I guess I feel a little better. It was only a slight leak in a bottom coolant hose, which of course was covered under factory warranty. I guess I just got used to the fact my last two Fords just had to have oil changed and nothing ever went wrong with them.

Just my 2 cents. We purchased the Ford ESP for our 2008 F 350. It has paid for itself many times over. Well worth the money spent. But Ford has a different set of rules that you won't find in their warranty brochure. We were lucky that the dealer in Florida went to bat for us and pushed them to approve the repairs needed. It was an expensive repair and they did not want to pay for it. ($12,000) They scrutinized every aspect of the requirements and held repairs up over a week. We're in Florida for the winter so it really didn't matter. Our dealer in Michigan would not repair it and ended up charging us over $1,000 for items that they said weren't covered. They are not pleasant people to deal with. Just our experience.

I took my 2006 Powerstroke in for service and discovered the rear main bearing, one real axle seal and head gasket seal was leaking.
With the Ford ESP Premier plan I paid a total of $100;00. They furnished me a Ford Focus to drive with no questions asked. Needless to say I am very pleased so far. Maybe a larger repair or a different dealer would be different, I don't know.

Ford has a new philosophy about dealer network. You can take your car anywhere in US. The owners sites have reps who deal with problem dealers. That service hooked me up on my last trip. I just needed oil etc. They set appointment and called me to insure I was treated nicely. I was very pleased !

That's cool, just having a little fun with our brand loyalty.
I'm a GM guy, all my life, but when it came down to buying a diesel truck, my choice was the Ram.

Your new Ford looks very nice, gotta love the aggressive grill. It looks like it could plow right through a brick wall and come out without a scratch.

IMO, you really can't go wrong with any of the big three diesels today. Who would have thought these trucks would have the luxury features of a Lexus and the brute force that they all have.
