Tire Size
Can anybody tell me if 85R/16 tires will fit on the newer fivers without any problems? I noticed that the tires on the new rvs are 80R/16s and since I just replaced my old tires last year, I thought about changing them out on my new camper and get rid of the Marathons. Thanks for any comments.

Steve,
That is the size upgrade for the 614's from the Marathons. It was a direct change-out on the rims for our rig so I am sure there is not any difference in the last two years since I don't believe the rims have changed. They 85's do sit about a half-inch higher in total so there is a possibility on some rigs of rubbing the plastic fender skirting when the suspension is in motion. This is what our dealer told us, but we have not had the rubbing at all on our rig.

Correct, it is the size of G614s.

So Hook, are you saying that I shouldn't have any problem with them on my new one?

The stock Marabombs are ST tires which are 80R/16's. Several of us have gone to the LT tires which are 85R/16. Depending on brand, they are just under an inch taller. My plastic fender gets kissed just a bit depending on how short a turn I make. You'll have to rely on other posts for experiences with the pricey G614's.

Steve,
You shouldn't have any problem with the tires.

I will add that the dealer also told us that in the event there was rubbing, it would be on the inside lip of the fender skirting, and their fix would have been to take a Dremel type tool and grind away the contact areas of the lip as needed. Again, we have not experienced any rubbing whatsoever to date.

Haven't had to make any fender adjustments to date.

Thanks all. Now figuring out how to raise both campers at one time to swap them out. Level up might help.

I trimmed the inner lip of the plastic fender skirt with a Dremel on the passenger side of my trailer (non slide out side) as the new G614s rubbed slightly when hitting bumps. The 614s are also slightly wider than the stock Marabombs.

Steve, looking at the latest Montana brochure it shows the standard tire size as ST235/80R16E. Just below that item is Big Sky tire size as LT235/85R16G which are the Goodyear G614's. That is stated under your Model 3100RL as well as all of the other new models. There should be no mod requirement for the upgraded tires on your model. Good Luck.

We've had the G614 85R/16 tires for three years on our '07 model and have had no problem with them and have not noticed any contact with the skirt. We've made some pretty short u-turns as well as backing into sites.

We put the G614s on our 2010 Mountaineer and they were a little closer to the skirts, but they work just fine. Mostly noticed the tires were slightly larger when putting on the Roto Choks. When we traded for our current coach we had them moved over to the new Monty, both wheels and tires were moved as part of the deal. I would rather have a used G614 any day over the new Marabombs. We also moved several other items, we like things that are dependable.
