We have slide toppers on our slide outs. I observed during a very windy day that the topper acts as a sail that tries to lift the slide. Since the slide is secured at the bottom and only sealed on the sides and top, the topper actually pulls the top of the slide inward which lessens the grip of the gaskets on the sides and allows the wind to blow rain inside the gasket. One side seals better than the other. Yes, it is really windy in South Texas (especially close to the beach) sometimes but really nice most of the time.
