RV Cover

We purchased a new 2017 Montana 5th wheel this year. We have been camping several times and have enjoyed it immensely. No problems so far.
It will most likely be stored outside for the winter (Illinois). There seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether or not an RV cover is a good investment. Any advice would be appreciated.

I see very very few people with Rv covers here in Oregon where it rains a lot. Wind can cause the cover to move around and possibly wear your corners and take the shine away and wear a hole in your cover.Be sure and DR-Z_Air and put some heat in your trailer if possible. I personally would not use a cover here in Oregon.

In my opinion, the summer is when they should be covered!
Cloudy, rainy and snowy and icy conditions don't harm RVs, but the sun sure does! However, being as the summer is when most people are using their RV,s, I suppose it wouldn't be very feasible for most to cover them during the summer.

The year before we went full time we kept ours outside in Kansas and there weren't any problems.

Consensus of our florida park crowd, not worth the money. We personally have never used.

Nope ,I had one and sold it 2 months later on Craigslist it was just a Hassle and I live in the NW So NOT Alot of Hot Sun,I just wash it once in a while and call it good

When we had our SOB, we kept it under a metal cover and wrapped in a fabric RV cover as well. Im in full agreement with Bigskyjimmy that the fabric covers are truly a pain in the butt to put on and take off. Another thing to think about is that when the wind blows, the fabric will constantly be rubbing against the corner drain spouts. Over time, either the fabric will wear thru or the spout will become damaged and break off.

I used a cover for one season. It did more damage then without. I live directly on the NJ coast and the wind whipped the cover damaging the rain gutters and exhaust vent. I had even used extra tie downs to help prevent wind damage. No more covers for me.

I use a cover and have for the past 12 years. When I put the camper away in the fall, it goes under clean and winterized. I haven't experienced any of the above concerns. I tie mine down tight, and yes it does move around a bit in the wind, but no damage that I can see to the finish. As for the drain spouts, I cut a swim noodle down to about 3" lengths and stick them on the spouts. They fit tight and protect not only the spout, but the material. I got 8 years out of my first cover and my 4th with the Montana is right around the corner. I have had good luck using them and believe it helps in some way to protect the camper from harsh New England winters.

I See what Sambam is saying if I was to put mine up for all the Fall/Winter it might be different But even before I went fulltime I used the Rv all year around here in the NW and like I said it is a hassle

Couple of things folks don't often think about:

- Those things are heavy, how will you get it on the roof to use it?
- Where will you store it when using the RV?
- It might keep the sun off of the RV in the summer, but it will make it really hot inside.

IMHO, it's well worth the money to find covered storage. My RV is in a boat dealer's storage. He has one building for RVs.
