Mod for Ignition on Gas Stove

Anyone tried this mod on their stoves? Sounds as though mod would be helpful in ignition of stove especially the oven for us who have them. Sorry if different form offends anyone.

mach111 although my stove is a Suburban I modified mine a couple of years ago, like everyone else I found it increasingly difficult down on my hands and knees in limited space trying to light the pilot.

I removed my stove completely and worked on it on my workbench in my workshop, only a few screws to remove and the propane line but much easier to do the mod. It appears your reference link and I used the same electronic sparker, however I found that often did not spark well on any of the burners and the oven it just was not up to snuff in my opinion. Therefore I bought another sparker that is dedicated to the oven and everything works like a charm.

The oven I find takes a fair while for the propane to get to the pilot so it is necessary to hold it for at least 10 seconds or even more if it has not been lite since a propane refill. Tons of spark on all of them now and never an issue with the burners or oven.

You may get by with the one electronic sparker, but it was not consistent enough to suit me. Here is a picture of the two of mine. Not a difficult job especially when you remove the stove so you can work on the oven mod on a bench, it will also give you a view as to just how crappy the construction is in that part of the cupboard and counter top, pretty sad....

You won't regret doing the mod if you decide to go ahead.

Merry Christmas to you and all on the MOC, best wishes for the upcoming year to all.

This has been done by members many times. Do a Search on keywords such as "oven igniter" or "oven lighter" in the Archived Topics and you will find a bunch of hits such as:

It's a great mod, but in our case wouldn't work. We've never used the stove except for storage and I don't want to bake that.
