Outlaw on MOC

Today I have had a popup come on asking me to give an opinion on a poll. It says it is sponsored by FORUMCO. It has popped up 4 times today. Jump in administrators. What's up??? Larry

Happens to me as well but not just the MOC forum. I mistakenly downloaded some junk and now I get these pop ups periodically, I have the blocker on but somehow they get through. Just another reason to avoid certain sites.

I haven’t had any trouble,
maybe my security package is doing its job.

The part that is curious to me is that they claim to be FORUMCO.

Well the consensus amongst the Admins is this is not the MOC or ForumCo's doing. You might ensure your browser has pop-ups blocked, but even so, it is likely you have picked up a piece of malware.

P.S. If this should re-occur, can you capture a screen print of the pop-up? That might help identify the cause.

If you are on a PC you may want to download a free program called AD-Aware, that will tell you if you have Adware programs on your computer. The majority of PC users will have some. There is also a program called Spybot that is free. It may cost now for the full blown version of each, but the download now program will let you know if you need to go further.

Another thing to try is to clean out your cache (temporary internet files) and all of your cookie files. Deleting the cookie files will necessitate knowing what your passwords are if you told the site to "remember" them. The password is not in the cookie, but the cookie tells the site who your are and if you can get back in.

Also, try Firefox as a browser and install AdBlock.

Good luck

Thanks, I will pursue it. Just thought it strange that it only pops on MOC. It has not come up since I mentioned it here yesterday. Never opened it so maybe it's gone.

Since I reported here yesterday, it has not returned. If it does I will try to get a copy. DW says we are protected and not to be concerned. She's the comp. geek. I'm not so savvy. Just thought you would be interested. Thanks Larry

If it pops up, and if you are on a PC, hold down the Alt key and hit the print screen key. this will capture just the last thing that came up on the screen, so it should only capture the pop-up.

Good luck.
