Not water heater

Please help!!! My hot water heater keeps blowing the breaker. What would cause this to happen?

Could be a number of things starting with a weak breaker and going thru a bad element. Your going to need to test the circuits to find the problem.

Anyone know how to test the water heater element?

Turn off the power and use a continanuaty tester. It applies low voltage to one terminsl of the element connect other probe of tester to the other terminal if element is good you will get a light or buzzer depending on the tester

If you have a volt/ohm meter, unplug from power, lift one wire from one side of the element, set your meter for low ohm setting (100 ohms?), and put your two meter leads on the two heating element screws. You should measure something in the range of 10 ohms if it is good. If it measures infinite ohms it is burned open. If it measures zero ohms it is shorted out. That would trip the breaker.

If the element is good or burned open you have something else causing it to trip.
