Just Venting...

Last month I picked up a brand new 2018 Montana HC 385BR. I took it down to Disney and it was awesome. When we got home I put it in storage and didn't go back until today to pick it up for a trip this weekend. When I got there I noticed that somebody hit my new trailer. When I notified the storage lot they told me to file a police report and go through my insurance since we couldn't tell who it was .

I called the Sheriff and went back down to my camper and started "investigating". I measured distance between the damage marks and then started looking around at other trailers on the lot. The spot next to me had a trailer that was damaged...and the damage marks were exactly the same distance apart as the damage on my camper.

I insisted that the property manager check the security cameras to see if they caught the incident. Turns out it happened last weekend and they caught the guy clear as day on camera. It was a trailer that belonged to a company. After contacting them they played dumb, but agreed to pay for the damage.

I just can't believe that somebody would do damage to somebody else's property and then walk away like nothing happened. Then the fact that the property was just going to write it off on my insurance without checking is incredible. I'm just lucky that it was caught on camera and that the sheriff was cool (he is the one that contacted the company and told them to pay or he would file a hit and run report).

I have an appointment to take the trailer in on Monday to CW for repairs. Who knows how long that will take, but at least it will get fixed and I don't have to pay for it.

Ouch. Looks like they dinged it pretty good. Hopefully the repairs will go quickly.

Unhappy

Very sorry to hear this, I can only imagine how you must feel, like you said, it will be fixed on their dime, but I know it still hurts!

Had exactly the same thing happen in our storage facility three years ago. In fact it was the storage facility who called and told me they observed marks on my rig while walking the lot. Can't believe how similar our damage compared to yours. Couple of scratches on the front cap and the rubber molding marked in one place and pulled from the channel in another place. It matched marks on the trailer next to me, only his were just a few inches from the back of his rig. Obvious he didn't pull forward enough before starting his turn when exiting his spot. I was able to pop the molding back in the track. Rubbing compound and a little wax fixed the scratches. Left the owner a note explaining what happen and ask he insure clearance before starting his turn in the future. Left my number. He called a few days later, apologized, offered restitution, and didn't realized he even clipped me. He only had his rig out for a weekend and didn't even noticed the 8 inch scratches on his trailer side. Admitted he was new to pulling a trailer and still getting use to it. Nice guy, I believed him, told him to chalk it up to experience. Now if my unit was brand new like yours I probably wouldn't have been as calm. Sometimes things happen unbeknownst to the offender and if no one gets hurt everything else can be repaired.

I had a similar experience. My brother and I were on open range in Wyoming and a calf run on the gravel road and we ran over its foot breaking it. It was 10 o’clock at nigh. We found the owner and took him to show him the calf. Volunteered to pay for his 400 pound calf and he said we were trying to somehow trying to cheat him. Wait a minute we were paying him the price he set, he kept the calf that he could butcher and we were cheating him when we could have kept going and no one would have ever known.

Thanks for the support. I will admit that when I first saw the damage I may have let loose with a few choice words. Over 10 years of storing a camper this is the first time that I have had anything like this happen.

Team Bradfield, I agree FW is one of the best campgrounds I have been to in the country. My kids love the campfire with Chip and Dale, and being able to park the truck/camper and be done for the week is pretty awesome.

I'm taking the camper out this weekend and am going to enjoy it down in Cedar Island, NC. Stuff happens and ultimately it can be fixed so I won't dwell on it. I'm due for another move this Summer in about two months so I am hoping that Camping World can get it done quickly.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but I am glad you sorted out who did it and don't have to go through your insurance. That might possibly ending costing you down the road in higher rates.

Do you always take your trailer to CW for repairs? We have never done that, mainly because they are not in our area. I have seen so many negative comments about the service at CW being absolutely awful! People complain that the work takes forever and is below standards. Like I said, we have no personal experience. I am just repeating what I have read online. You might be better off with a dealership. Good luck!

In 2007 we were in Camp-Run-A-Muck in Hyder, AK for a few days in late August. While taking a knap, our rig bounced around like we had been hit in our back-in spot. Sure enough a fellow RVer in self contained camper was backing into a spot nearby and his rig rocked over and hit outs. They apologized and promised to pay for repairs. I took their name/address as they did our along with insurance info. 5 months later--back in San Antonio-the repair was $250. I notified the couple and we had a check in a few days! My wife could not believe it--but I DID! So another great story from the Road to Alaska. There many great folks in the RV world and I have had the pleasure to meet many under some better conditions!

I am sure that applies to CW! Our Monty is in for warranty work and some other minor issues, and we were assured we would have it back well before we are to leave for a trip on May 28. Not only that, but this is at a dealer, and not the one we bought it from.

Don’t write them all off. Tail swing caught a steel column ripping one side of my rear cap loose doing major damage last week of June. Took it to Coach Specialist of Texas. They worked estimate, submitted to my insurance, got approval, completed all repairs (included removing rear cap to repair fiberglass), and had it ready in 3 weeks. And that included July 4th in the middle. $12,000+ to insurance, $500 deductible for me. First class operation if you ever need repairs. They do repairs, restorations, upgrades. Not a dealer.

Heard good things about Cape Fear Custom RV in Wilmington NC. 8 phone calls never answered or returned. Over nearly 3 weeks and impossible to schedule anything.

It is amazing what people think and do. Our's got the front cap clipped by a forklift mast while it was at the dealership for other warrantee issues. I didn't notice until I was at home ready to pull out for the holiday weekend and made one finale check around the TV and unit. The RV dealership thought they had called me to let me know about their blunder with their forklift. Of course they never contacted me and they knew it.
