Who uses an EZ Pass?

I just called the PA EZ Pass customer no-Service line. I was asking if I could register my truck under our existing account and use the transponder from our car in the truck when pulling the 5th wheel. She initially told me I would need a Commercial RV transponder when pulling the trailer because the total weight would be over 15,000 lbs and a regular transponder when not pulling it. I pressed her on how stupid that sounded. Then she changed the story and said that i could use the regular transponder all the time, no matter the weight and axle/tire count, as long as the truck is registered in the system. Bottom line...I don’t trust her answers as far as I could throw an elephant.

So if anyone uses an EZ Pass, could you let me know the regulations for it concerning our rigs and which transponder can be used? Thanks!!!

I'm in ny, same pass for cars and truck as long as they are listed on the account. I've been pulling two different campers, three with my mother's with the same truck and no issues. I never asked about the campers, it does seem to charge more when towing though, never broker it down but as long as it keeps working I'm ok with it.

We use the TXPass and FLPass. Keep them set up on auto-pay and forget'em. Never had an issue.

I use the NY E-Z Pass. I asked a toll taker about hauling the 5er through as it is danged expensive by getting a ticket and paying a toll. His comment was that all they look at is the transponder electronically as well as the front license plate via camera. Lots of bucks saved as it is $19.35 between Exit 27 (NY-30) and Exit 36(I-81) vs $4.89 (https://wwwapps.thruway.ny.gov/tollc...tor/index.aspx)

Tolls other then cars/pickups are based on height and number of axles

I have an Ohio EZ pass and have pulled both my utility and 5er 3820FK many times. As long as your truck plate is on it, you just get charged by the axle as you pass through, much cheaper than pay as you go. But you have to load up the pass first and they deduct as you use it. I like the pass as I keep on going when others are waiting for people to find change.

We have been using the EZ pass for years all over the country. We have one account for the truck and one for the Car.We have never had a problem using the EZ when going through with or without the montana. It just counts the number of Axles.

Thanks for all the replies. I knew her answer sounded wrong, but wanted to verify with those who actually use it.

I have two EZ Passes for New York, one for the truck solo and the second for when towing the RV. Now I'm over in the Buffalo/Rochester area and most of the toll booths in our area do not have the axle counters in the road as they do down state, so the reason for two transponders, if they can count the axles then one transponder is fine as they'll bill based on number of axles.

I live in AZ. No front license. How do these things work in the states that want the license?

TXTag

I have TXTag on truck and DWs Subaru. Have it set to auto reload. I think when it gets down to $10 it debits my account for another $40 reload. Have never had any issues. The tag on the truck is up by the rear view mirror. The Subaru has eyesight collision system up by the rear view mirror and you can’t put tags up there because they would interfere with the eyesight system. They have a thing that is about the size of a big snickers bar that attaches to the front license plate holder that houses the TXTag chip. They gave me tamper resistant bolts to attach it.

Decide what routes you will be traveling. It might end up less expensive to pay tolls rather then use an E-Z Pass. For example, you travel from TN to I-81 straight North then across NY along the St Lawrence River US11, cross Lake Champlain to US 2 across VT, NH and Maine to (Calais) New Brunswick - zero tolls.

I hope you are intending on stopping in New Brunswick at the Bay of Fundy and Hopewell rocks then after you get the NS you make a circuit od Cape Breton though I would not haul the 5er over that road/

In Maine, Acadia NP, Old Orchard Beach for walking along the shore and and anywhere along Rt 1 for lobstah/clams/scallops. We like Booth Bay area. Of course a stop at Freeport/ LL Bean to lighten your wallet

my experience with ez pass is once you get out west as far as Chicago there are no more ez pass roads. It seems ez pass is mostly east coast. In Komiefornia we have fast pass which I believe works on the west coast never used it outside of Komiefornia

Chasnracin, we live near New Castle, PA. We have ONE EZPass transponder. I place it in which ever vehicle I plan to use on the toll roads. I also use it when towing the Monty. Never had an issue or been questioned regarding the use. I have two cars, a pick up truck and the Monty registered (make, model, license number) with EZPass on the account website. When towing the toll scanner weighs the vehicle and counts the axles. I get billed accordingly.
Also, my original transponder went bad after about ten years (they do have batteries inside). EZPass sent me a new one at no cost.

We have been using our NH EZ Passes for both our dually and my Tahoe. We purchased them years ago and use them all over the country. We have been in Kansas for a few years. I love the auto pay. Next week we leave for the west, you now have me thinking what we might need now.

Ditto here in VA and everywhere it's accepted.
