3400rl kitchen

Just starting to look for our first fifth wheel. Already have narrowed it down to a Montana. My question is about the kitchen layout in the 3400rl. Is the counter top and sink really useable ?
I kind of think more open space would be better than the "L" counter in the middle of the floor. Would appreciate your comments and experiences.
Thanks
Joe & Janet

LOVE our 3400. makes cooking simple because you have counter space. How many people are you going to have standing around that you need open floor space, but counter space for dishdrainer, hot pans, serving up food etc. Plus you have room for toaster, coffee pot etc. Hope this helps. Teresa

The biggest advantage we found is that the l-shaped countertop isolates the kitchen into it's own space. Wife prefers not having traffic in the kitchen during meal preparation, clean-up etc and the counter provides separation for the room. The counter is an added bonus when preparing large meals, desserts, etc, since it provides so much usable space. We never regretted the decision to have this floorplan.

We have 3+ years in our 3400 and love it. Plenty of room in the kitchen as others have said. With just the two of us we feel we have plenty of room.

We love our 3400, Had a get together and 10 people sat in my unit while I still had room to prepare and serve desert of pecan pie and ice cream. Need counter space to cook and serve, never have felt crowded in my living room.

We love our 3400RL as the kitchen is isolated from the living space with lots of counter top and gives the person working within the L a very effiecent design as a work space. Also the fridge is a very easy access from the main door to outside. The way the L kitchen is set up it can also be used as a sustitute to the main table for servings using bar stools. We would not go to a different plan after living with this design for 3 continuous months!!

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the kitchen design was what sold us on the 3400. We spent a long time looking at all the different floor plans, and the big factor for the DW (and me), was the kitchen layout in the 3400. Going on three years now, and absolutely NO regrets.

My wife loved the floor to ceiling storage next to the frig along with the storage above the counter with doors that open on both sides. Two people can work at the L counter from both sides and have access to the space under the sink due to doors that open on the table side of the counter. We are now looking for another stick home and she keeps comparing the storage in the 3400 to the homes.

The "L" was a concern for us initially too. After spending our first weekend in the trailer we quickly realized that the space and function of the "L" were far more usable than we expected.

Another unexpected advantage of the "L" was when our trailer was broken in to back in April while in storage. The "L" made it difficult to get to the rear of the trailer with the slides all in. So they gave up with out stealing anything. I Just had a busted door window to fix.

We just purchased our 3400RL this pass Feb. DW was not too sure about the L counter top at first. However, now that she was used it, she loves it and had made the statement, "I'm sure glad we chose this model, I love my counter space.

We love our 3400...the kitchen design was actually one of the "required" items on our list of "must haves" when shopping for a fifth wheel. It is very funtional, as others have already stated.

We have a 3600RE and the kitchen design is the same as the 3400. We like the separation of space, useable counter area, and storage.

Our 3400RL is our 4th fifth wheel, and the floor plan and L-shaped kitchen is what sold us on this model. We love the amount of countertop workspace provided in this model as well as the abundant cabinet space. We're fulltimers since Sept. '09 and are very satisfied with the comfort and amount storage we are living with in our 3400! When we went to last year's big RV show in Tampa and looked at so many other makes, models and floor plans, we both agree that they don't compare to what we've got with our 3400.

I think a lot depends on how one intends to use the Montana. For those who do weekends and vacations and probably do little meal preparation indoors, then the large counter in the 3400RL is probably wasted space. But we use our Montana fulltime. For us, adequate kitchen counter space for food preparation was a critical factor in the buy decision. The sink covers add even more counter space.

So I don't think there is a good 'yes' or 'no' answer to your question that applies to everyone. It all comes down to how you intend to use that Montana. Good luck with your decision and your Montana.

We have a 2008 3400RL & my wife loves to cook. Her biggest complaint is no cupboard or overhead space for Spices and drawers are not functional for cooking while your @ the stove without having to turn around all the time. There is plenty of room but you also need a stool to get up to most of the cupboards.

Just making a comment. After all I'm not the cook.

We really wanted the 3670 for the wide open space but they stopped making it for 2006. The 3400 according to Helen's tape measure offered the largest counter space for 2006. We long time in the 3400 spending many months a year living in it and it has served us well.

Actually the spice cabinet is right there on the left end of counter very near the stove so I don't get the one comment about it being unhandy. It is a very sweet spice cabinet that holds everything like even the salt box. I love it. We have a very large family and love our 3400. One caution, you do need to put down pads and things to protect from very hot dishes and pans. The counter top is probably meltable to some degree. Also can't pour boiling water down the drain. We keep lots of cutting boards handy for hot dishes and crock pots to sit on, just as a precaution.
Hope this advice helps, every fam is different and have different needs.

We are on our third Montana and this one is 3400RL and it's a keeper. With the fourth slide you have both floor space and great kitchen.
Good luck with your decision.
