Finish of dinette table

After a year of use, the finish on the dinette table is wearing thin, in fact it is worn through in a few places. We always use thick place mats and do not place hot items on the table without a trivet and a place mat underneath. Just wondered if I'm alone on this or others have the same issue.

I'm going to resolve with about 5 - 8 coats of Interlux Goldspar Satin #60 sanding with #220 progressing to #320 grit between coats. Will show results when done. Also in need of refinishing is the table between the recliners, although that one is my fault in the way I secured it for travel between the recliners.

Our '06 dining table and end table look good as new. In use continuously since May '07 until May '11, It almost appears that Keystone did a better job back then as I have had very few problems.

Had glass tops made for them, 3 years ago. Cost was about $100.00

Dave-- Try using some fine grade steelwool between the final two coats and I think you'll be surprised as to how much smoother the finish when you are done! It is a little trick that a finishing carpenter that did out stick told me. One other thing-- use a tacky cloth to take off anything that has been lifted from the steelwool. They are available at any Lowes or Home Depot!

Thought about this but how well do they travel? Do you have some sort of strap device you made?

Just use a few bungee cords. Put them front to back & side to side. Over 3,000 miles & all is well.

Our dinette table has developed a crack on the leaf that folds out. We noticed it last weekend. It is where the boards were glued together and it just popped apart. I guess it will be one of my winter projects to glue it back together. Really shouldn't have to do that with a 1 year old table but I guess nothing is built like it used to be. I agree that the finish is very thin also. I'm sure they just use the spray on type that looks good when you buy it but thats about it.

Not full timers, but have used ours 132 nights in the 4 years we have had it. Table still looks very good.

The table on our 06 held up great all the time we had it even after putting hot cups on it. This new one though is of poorer quality, so beware of what you put on the newer ones.

Our new 2011 3400 has a crack in the top that shows up more in the low humidity states. So far Keystone has not agreed to a fix since they say they have to replace table and chairs as a unit. Sounds like their problem to me!

Our table top split where it was glued. Keystone replaced it , no problem. Larry
