07 F350 DRW/07 3400 combo tips or advice?
We just picked up our 07 F350 XLT 4x4 DRW LWB 6.0. Had a Draw Tite 22k hitch installed. Got our 3400 last Oct and pulled it a couple of times with our 04 F250 4x4 SWB (Reese 15k slider, Firestone airbags) and it pulled well but was concerned about weight issues. Anyway, was wondering if anyone was pulling with an 07 F350 and if they had any issues or suggestions. Haven't pulled it yet (it's -4F tonight in KY) but I imagine airbags would soften the ride. We're 4 years away from full timing/long timing and I want to get ready for extended comfortable/safe travel. My F250 (16.5K miles) is still for sale if anyone's interested. Thanks.

You've got a great truck (more than enough truck) for the 3400. your comments on softening the ride may not be doable as it's simply the characteristic of the dually. I don't think you need airbags as their intent is to increase sagging and handling characteristic.

You have a great combination. I like an 8 foot box for a fiver. No hassle, no expensive auto sliding hitch needed and I am sure your new unit will handle very well. Enjoy.

You'll do fine pulling your rig all over the continent with that setup, including the mountains in Alaska. Our 2004 Montana 3380 did great behind our Dodge dually which doesn't have the pulling power of that new Ford. We don't even know it's there.
For a smoother ride, you might consider one of the king pins from TrailAir, MorRyde, or Airborne. We noticed an improvement right away with our TrailAir hitch. We also feel that it lessens the stress on the rig.
Welcome to the forum!

We have the 05 version of your truck(but a V-10) and the 06 3400.. We do not feel air bags are necessary..Hook the camper up and note the sag,,it is not very much..at least I would not buy the airbags before you determine if you want/need them or not/ Agree on the MOr-Ryde or Trail-Air suspension..check them out as they do different things.

No problems with mine with just under 20k on the odometer. We average 11.5 mpg pulling the Monty on interstates. We have never taken a longer trip where we could travel the slower two lane roads or I feel we could get a little better. I bought a dually to support the extra weight of the front living room and 2 slides. I don't think it rides all that bad for a dually. The truck manufactures have came a long way in making trucks that can support the weight and still ride pretty nice.

Well, mine's a 2005 F250 with 76k miles so I can't tell you how your F350 will do other than to say it will do a great job.
On the ride, are you referring to while towing or while solo? For a softer ride solo, let some air out of those rear tires. I run the rears at 80 when towing and 60 when not. A couple of months ago we finally wore out the OEM tires at 70k miles. Actually, they had another 5k to 7k in them but we were coming into ice and snow in December and I wanted more tread on the tires. In other words, 60 in the rear worked just fine when not towing.

We just picked our new '07 Monty 3500RL last Saturday and headed out across various types of roads and our '06 Ford F350 DRW PSD did great with the dealer installed 16K Reese hitch. This was my first time pulling a fiver and it was very smooth and stable. The Tow/Haul system worked great also. God luck, you'll be fine.

Well, I had a major DUH moment. I was thinking single rear wheel. Thanks to a friend who emailed me you are running a dually and my comment therefore does not apply. Sorry for the confusion.

Our SRW F350 is pretty rough when empty (can tell if a dime is heads or tails just by running over it), but our 3400 tames it right down to a smooth ride. The 3400 barely squats the springs, so I'm sure your LB DRW is more than adequate without airbags. In fact, it will probably be a much smoother ride than our SB.
We added the Fifth Airborne pin box to take away some of the trauma to the trailer from the heavy suspension on the truck and visa versa. That combined with the Montana Mor-Ryde suspension is a very impressive ride.

I gotta get my 2-cents worth in here. I saw this question on the Ford-Enthusiasts Forum and suggested that Rubble Express take a look at the MOC forum.
WELCOME ABOARD.
I haven't figured out how to post pictures on the Ford Forum yet so, here is what my rig looks like.
