LED install pictures

I got my LED strip installed. The only problem I ran into was the post office didn't deliver my extension cord. So, I went to Lowes and got some 5 strand t-stat wire. I spliced it in and ran it in the awning arm track. I wanted to get it installed before Friday because we are leaving for vacation. If they deliver my wire I will probably switch it out. The transformer is mounted to the wall in the storage compartment and the wire to the control box is just zip-tied to the water lines along the top of the compartment. The control box is mounted to the ceiling of the compartment and the IR sensor is mounted in the frame of the door.

You are going to like it! I've had mine done for a while now, and it's working out really well.
The only additional thing I did was to coat each and every connection with a thin layer or RTV silicone to add a little extra insurance against water infiltration. I did the ends of the LED strip itself too. Wherever something was connected to something else, it got coated.

That's a good idea Mark. Once I get the extension cable I ordered and swap it out for the t-stat wire I will silicone everything. For now I just used electrical tape to seal up the connection and the other end of the lights.

Where did you guys buy your LED strips? Anything else (other than the parts from Lowes) needed when you order the LED strips?
Thanks, Glenn

This is the set I bought and I think others have used. You will need an extension cable of some type if you want to mount the control box anywhere other than right near the end of the lights. the 3M tape is available at Amazon or Autozone. I got the extension cable from ebay because no Amazon retailer could get it to me soon enough.

Nice job. You can also eliminate the power supply and use the 12v from the DC system. Also I found a RF wireless remote system on ebay so you don't need an exposed sensor.

Mike (Ishler)- In regards to the LED wiring- you mentioned being able to do away with the power supply by using the 12V system. I have the 12V plug in the "basement" of the Monty for the outside TV did you use that or did you hardwire the LEDs into one of the 12V wires? I guess if I used the 12V plug I would need to wire a male cigerette lighter type plug on the LED cord right? Thanks! -Glenn

I didn't use the 12V outlet because I do use it for my tv when I move it out there. You can get a double 12v pigtail to plug into the outlet so you can use 2 things.

Maybe I'll wait for a wider version that will allow me to have scrolling message on it.
