Truck Bed Lighting project

After swapping out all the lights in the Monty with 48 LED panels ($2ea/ebay), I liked them so much I ordered more and added 10 to the bed of my truck. It was a simple DIY project.
1) Bought 50ft of 16ga Red/Black wire.($20)
2) Every 16in I exposed wire and soldered the leads from the LED panel to the Red/Black wires.
3) Ran 5 LEDs down each side of the bed, under the rails.
4) Grounded the black wire to the bed. (It took a suprising amount of effort to get through the Rhino Liner to the metal in a small spot for a grounded screw. Which proves to me how truely tough the Rhino Liner is.)
5) Ran a red wire under truck along frame rail wire harness to the engine compartment and back through firewall to the Ford Upfitter switch #4 (15amp).

Now with the key on and #4 upfitter switch up, the bed is brightly lit. It will make hooking up at night much easier.

Very nice. I've got to stop reading this forum. I'm already thinking of doing this to my truck.

How did you fix the LEDs to the sides of the truck? Double sided tape? Jusst wondered, cause I know sticky stuff wil not work long in Florida's summer heat.

The LED panels come with 3M backing. I'm in Houston, Tx which runs 95% humidity some days in summer. I've been surprised by how well they stay put in the RV. Out of 25+ I've only had one that would not stay stuck. I'll see how well they hold up in the truck bed. If they start dropping I'll add a drop of construction adhesive to the backs.

Cool. We will watch for your findings as summer rolls on. Tampa is a lot like Houston regarding heat and humidity.

Robin, I have looked for the "bundle" that holds the wires to use for the upfitter switches several times under the dash and I cannot find them. Since we both have 2008 trucks, any hints on how to locate them? I would like to use one for my TPMS. Thanks, Glenn
