Water Heater wont run on Gas

I have checked the electrical and the igniter is working but no gas. I read where someone had a problem with air getting in when changing tanks, is this possible or do I have a bad gas valve? Furnace and stove work fine.

Bill, I ran into the same problem last summer. I tried and tried to fire the water heater on gas with no luck. We had the Mountaineer scheduled to the dealer for other issues, and I had them check it out. No problems, it fired right up. Only thing I could think of would have been air in the system. I'm not sure how long the gas valve stays open if it doesn't light right up, but it looks like if you keep attempting to light it, it should eventually work the air out. I would think you could take the tubing nut loose at the gas valve and bleed the line, but I would sure check it for leaks when you snug it back.

Bill, does it start at all? if it fires and quits,it could be the sensor in the control unit,it would do the same thing as a themocouple used to do in the pilot operated tanks. If it dosen't sense heat after so many seconds,it will shut down the gas,it thinks it did not fire. If you are not getting any gas at all, possible it could be a spider nest in pilot line, thay will plug it up so nothing comes out. But if you have been using it,that should not be a problem. hope this helps.
