Fireplace electrical fire warning
We have been using our fireplace (Dimplex model DF2603) as a heater on and off for the last few weeks, mostly on. I started to smell electrical wire burning and traced it to the fireplace. I took it apart to find that where the power cord came into a terminal block it had burnt the wire and melted part of the block. Not sure what would have happened if we had not been at home, I hope it would have fried the 120 power cord and just shorted out. I guess I don't really want to know.
My only suggestion is to take the top off your fireplace and make sure the screws are tight on the terminal block. The factory sent out replacement parts, the wrong cord, but I made it work. They said this is the first time this has happened, I wonder? The first picture is the top of the fireplace turned upside down and then a close up of the terminal block.

Don't have a fireplace, but good advise all around. Loose screws, , loose connectors, bad crimps on connectors, or any other thing that causes a high resistance in an electrical circuit can cause overheating, especially in high amp circuits.

There is so much to look out for on these units. Glad you found it and fixed it. Thanks for the photos.

Wow, that's number 2 since I started MOC. I think SNFEXPRESS had the same problem and posted it last spring. I pulled the fireplace and tightened that terminal block (along with many other electrical connections). Glad I did - (knock on wood)
Thanks for the warning Dick, and glad you detected it before it became a bonfire .

I would also like to see the same thing. It could be time to try and force Dimplex to come up with a better fix. I wonder if I should solder the wires together and do away with the terminal block?
Any thoughts?

Montana's aren't the only ones having trouble with the Dimplex line. My brother is pulling a Forest River Flagstaff and my SOB, Coachmen Wyoming, have both had problems with the fireplaces. I'm starting to get a little leary of the things. Bob

Phil, just pull the screws around the top edge of the fireplace and the top lifts off, I think 6 total. Just turn it over and there you are.
I just sent a letter to Dimplex, via email asking them what they are doing to prevent this problem in the future. Will post back what they have to say.
