Suicide step light and Solid Step

I added led license plate lights to the well of the suicide step so people can take notice of it and not fall or trip.

Also installed the Solid Steps today. Me like them.

Our 2010 3150RL has that damn step! We're used to it but guests are not. We've had several close calls because of it. These lights are a great idea, I'll look into installing some before this season begins. Thanks for a great idea.

I put the lights in not so much to see the step but to draw attention to it being there for visitors.
A camp host came visiting at a camp in Canada and got up from the recliner and stepped into space and nearly fell to the ground. Some friends we camp with have also forgotten about the step and were not happy with the idea. They all have taken my lead in installing a screen door bar in their trailers so they knew where to reach for support as they stumbled.

I hooked the lights into the door switch on the intermittent side so the lights will go on when the door is opened and will also work with the wall switch.

That’s a good add. I might even look at something Ike that for our interior steps

I found your thread while looking for Solid Step and have a few questions for your as my 2009 3400RL has the famed suicide step.

Where is this switch, I envision it's embedded in the doorframe? What else does it trigger?

For the license plate lights, I imagine you ran the wiring underneath the metallic threshhold to where it needed to go? Mostly I'm trying to visualize what's underneath the flooring and how to run wires to accomplish the same thing in my rig.

Yes, I ran the wires under the edge metal strip. Over to the hinge side of the door and found a gap in the bottom of the frame where I could fish the wires through. The switch is actually a push button located on the door frame about half way up on the hinge side. I unscrewed it from the frame and fished the wires down to the bottom. The button only turns the lights on when the door is opened along with the interior lights.

Do you have a photo of the bar please?

Thank you, this is most helpful indeed. I'll have to figure out how to power and switch mine as it doesn't have a door switch (currently).

Just one more and this may be a long shot. I reached out to Lippert Parts via email with the photo of your install and every single dimension of my suicide step. Their response was they don't have a product designed for this application - fair enough, this is the same response I got from Morryde a couple years back.

Still, you've done it and thus it can be done. Now to the long shot part - do you happen to still have the part numbers of your Lippert Solid Step stuff handy? Dimensions I've got: the step is 8 1/2" deep to the threshold, 8 11/32" tall and 29 3/8" wide. The doorframe width at its narrowest is 28 1/2".

You could tap into the light switch by the door and wire down to the step lights using a microswitch.

As far as the actual steps here is the tag on mine. and pictures of the door light switch and the steps as installed.
