TR6 WHEELS.......HOW DOES ONE TELL IF HE HAS THEM?
I am about to "pull the trigger" on a new set of 5 Goodyear RST G614s for my 2006 Montana Mountaineer 342-PHT............I was reading one of the posts here, and the guy said that Keystone had Tredite Tire company to "recertify" all of the TR6 wheels to be able to run at the increased "110 psi". My question to you guys is this: How do I tell if my rig has the TR6 wheels. My "gut" on this one tells me to just purchase a new set of wheels from Tredite, along with the chrome valve stems, and go from there.
Your Thoughts?

Pull the tire off. The stamping inside the rim should tell you what you have. (You may look on the back side of the rim before pulling the tire off, as I understand some rims were stamped back there.)

jhamlin, IF I had to buy new wheels I would probably get the Alcoa Aluminum. Pricier, but higher quality, in my mind. Just because you get the higher psi 614's doesn't necessarilly mean you need the full 110 psi. I aired mine based on my axle weights and speed I drive (62mph), so I ended up wih 100 psi in the tires. I have only had them a couple weeks so I have no experience with them yet. I am hoping for the best.....
As Wayne said, you might be able to get on your hands and look inside the wheel for the TR6 mark, get a flashlight and take a look.

Phil, have you noticed things moved around inside more with the higher psi in the tires? I would think that would translate to a harsher ride. But I don't know. You may not have enough time with them yet to know. Curious minds...

Steve, I don't have much time with them. Just pulled from Tucson to San Diego. I do not air up to 110psi, just 100. Have not noticed any difference yet. I think it is important to air the tires according to the load. There should be no difference in ride if done correctly, at least that is what I was told by Goodyear....Only time will tell....

For what it is worth, you can call Tredit and have them send a letter stating the re-cert. They will also send you the stickers to put on the wheels that show the PSI rating.
For me, after I get too nervous to run the GY Marathons anymore, I will be switching to the G614's on American made forged Alcoa wheels and will not gamble on the Chinese made cast TR6 wheels. There is a good reason why Alcoa forges their wheels, it makes them far stronger and superior to simple cast wheels.
I have seen far too many pictures of the Tredit TR6 wheels with cracked spokes, it makes me very leery of running them any higher than 90 PSI.

Thanks So Much, Guys!
Now I actually feel like I can make an informed decision relative to my new purchase. Looks like the good people at Tredite Tire & Wheel Company are gonna make me a "sweet deal" on new tires & wheels!
Thanks Again,
Jerry
