Slide out fluid type

Our slide out hydraulic tank is about a inch low. The manuel say use type A ATF fluid. My local auto parts dosen't have it, I look on camping world web site and I don't see it. Thoughts on where to find it? Thanks George

Dale Brubaker (mimf2) from Lippert has said that any ATF will work. Are you checking fluid level with all the slides in?

Color is irrelevant. Any ATF will work. Dale recommends the cheap stuff you can buy at Wal*Mart.

ghomer,

Yup! The cheapest stuff in town you can find! As long as on the label of the bottle you see Dexron III/ Mercon or Mercon IV. Color won't mean "diddly". Add the fluid to the reservoir with the rooms in and fill it to about 1" from the top.

You know what gang? I just came to realize. Why am I going to put on seminars at the great lakes rally and possibly at the fall rally?? You all are already slide out techs!!!

Dale, we're mostly old ****s and you have to keep telling us. Otherwise CRS gets us every time.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Every time I look in my fwd compartment I notice that there is oil on the tray my slide pump/tank is mounted. last month I re-filled the tank to 1" from top and the next time I looked (couple of weeks) there was oil everywhere. The slides were in when I serviced it and the slides were operated just a couple of times since. I'm not sure if the leak is static or dynamic? The reservoir is plastic and possibly leaking at the seal to the pump??? Anyone deal with this type of problem and have any advice???

Thanks

Dave

I know what the owner manual says. My experiance with autos that claim that Power steering systems are acceptable to use ATF. It will work. However I also noticed in a fleet of 350 vehicles that all that had ATF in the PS system were prone to leaks. My suggestion is to use Power Steering fluid or Hydraulic jack oil.
