Our dealer called this morning to verify the purchase order before he sent it in just to make sure that we were on the same page. He also said that we could make changes if we changed our mind on anything for awhile. He is getting us a quote on the kipor GTE 3500ti.Don't know if we will buy it, still doing the research on the generator but wil have a price.

Congratulations on you new rig,(almost) I don't think you will regret your choice. We have a 2006 3400RL purchased Sept 3/05. I still get people knock at the door to show off the great layout to their friends. We are very comfortable full timing in British Columbia. Enjoy and know that you have a lot of positive information to back up your choice. Isn't this Club great also. Good luck. Diane

Dsprik, my opinion probably is not shared by all as witnessed by some other posts. Up front I'll say I wouldn't mind having the Mor-Ryde pinbox and I'll probably get it if we ever trade this Montana. However, there are many thousands, probably closer to several hundred thousand fifthwheels roaming this country with just the ordinary standard pinbox, us included. We do not have much problem with herky jerky motion although occasionally we do get that. I realize the new pinbox is easier on the overhang frame, but Montana stood behind ours and I expect no further problem in that area. What I'm trying to say is if the pinbox is a deal breaker or means giving up something else you really want, my decision would be to wait and maybe add the pinbox later. Just an opinion, for whatever it is worth.

Steve I agree with you 100% on this. I still have not decided. I will have no problem deleting it if it makes any significant difference financially. Really appreciate the input. Very well said.

By the way all,

There is a problem with the 3400 that has been discussed on another thread that you should check into when your new unit arrives.

The rear portion of the kitchen slide retracts into the trailer right at the center of the wheel fender skirt. The rear portion of the skirt on all the units I have seen, have no support bracket to hold it in place. As a result, when the slide retracts and comes into contact with the rear portion of the skirt, it simply bends it back under the frame. Nothing breaks, but it sure looks crummy! If this problem has not be corrected, what I'm describing will be immediately noticable when the kitch slide is fully retracted.

I have made several changes to my trailer to make mine look acceptable and have posted several photos. I also mentioned these changes to Montana CS, but have no idea whether they even cared.

We have decided to add the Custom Flow elete series fifth wheel tailgate on our TV for the same reason we added the bedsaver. There is no doubt that I would at some time forget to put the tailgate down (bang). I can get it delivered to my door from Arizona for 347.00.. that is the best price I have found so far..is that good or bad??

Rich,
I think I paid $329 for my Custom Flow tailgate, I think $347 delivered to your door is a pretty good price. You will enjoy the Custom Flow tailgate, sure makes hooking and unhooking alot easier.

I had to make a couple of modifications to my 2006 3400 in the area where the kitchen slide comes into contact with the trailer mounted plastic fender skirt when the slide fully retracts. Before the modifications, when the slide was fully retracted, the portion of the fender skirt that was mounted to the kitchen slide did not mate up very well with the plastic portion of the fender skirt that was mounted to the trailer wall - hope this makes sense.

I have seen several different construction techniques in this area, some - like mine did not work out very well. Did/do you have a similar problem with your 2004 model?

Rick,
I did notice that the fender skirt does not line up perfectly on mine as well, but not enough that I had thought about doing anything about it. I am curious as to what you had to do to make this line up?

Rich,

Actually I thought mine was a mess. With the kitchen slide in, the lower right corner of the slide would come in contact with the top left portion of the trailer mounted fender skirt. This would push the trailer mounted portion of the fender skirt approximately 1" (at its lowest point) back under the trailer.

I did 2 things. First, I cut off the lower right portion of the black rubber seal. Upon inspection, you will see that this portion of the seal does nothing but get in the way as the kitchen slides retracts. This provided more clearance as the slide retracts.

Second, I installed a fender skirt support bracket similar to the one located on the curb side fender skirt. This bracket is visible in the photo below.

As you can see, things match up much better now.

Before making the changes myself, I contacted my dealer. Their comment was that all the 3400's that came through their shop had the same problems. So, I decided to fix it myself. I mentioned this info to Keystone Customer Service but they were not interested. Greg Crouch struck again. What a guy!

Montana Sky,

My previous post was really in response to your question rather than to Rich.

Rick,
Looks like a great fix, I will look into that as soon as the coach comes out of the garage next month. Thanks for the pictures, sure makes things easier to adjust.

Rich, we paid a little more than your price when we bought one from Camping World, so I think you did good.

Got a call from Town &Country Rv this AM. The 3400 will be at the dealership April 24th. It was Ordered March 1st. Our schedules will not allow us to do the full PDI and pick it up till the 3rd of may which is exactly the date we wanted it in the driveway. Our first camping trip is May 12th. The dealership is about 45 mins away so we may Honda over there on a day trip to get a head start on the PDI.I love it when a plan comes together.
