Winterizing Samsung refrigerator
Montana High Country 331RL with Samsung Residential Refrigerator with ice maker. Tried to push antifreeze through the blue water line and out the valve that is inside the base cabinet between the refrigerator and the oven and after disconnecting the smaller diameter ice maker line. Got very little pink antifreeze out and a lot of back pressure when trying to do this using the hand pump method. No better results when using the water pump to pull the antifreeze from the full bottle. Both times connected to the winterization fitting in the convenience center.
Yes, the valve beneath the island sink was open and the ice maker line disconnected and the valve in the base cabinet also open.
What did I do wrong? I did get just a dribble of pink, but no real flow. What could be blocking this line? Is that it?

With the residential fridge and washer it took 4 gallons. Without the washer it was less than 3.
I blew it out first.
I put the bucket on an 8 foot ladder. There was no gasket and screen so I needed to borrow one from the city hookup. I reversed the screen to push in on the backflow. I did not prime the hose. Pump pulled it just fine.
Only hard part was keeping bent over while cycling the icemaker til the cube tray was pink. Clean up was easier by leaving the cube bucket in.
Cell phone set to selfie made finding the icemaker test button easier. (it is on the bottom of the icemaker)
There is no low point drain or reachable shutoff valve on the LKs for the refrigerator
To do this I used the winterizing port and let the waterpump push the antifreeze through.
Does this help ya?

OK Jeff, this sort of helped. Thanks, but I still have questions.
1. Yep, blew out the line first. Was wanting to keep from having pink ice cubes in the spring. What's with the bucket on a ladder? You could have a different arrangement than I do.
2. Turned the screen around inside the winterization connection. I just put a gallon jug of antifreeze in the convenience center and connected a clear plastic line to the winterizing fitting and the other end down into the full gallon of antifreeze. Then turned on the water pump which did not run very long once the system pressurized. Had the valve in the base cabinet open. Only a trickle of pink from the valve. Why not a flow?

We just bought a new range for our home. We went to two independent Applance dealers both told us not to buy a Samsung or LG. Why? You can’t get parts for them and they won’t last. We bought a range and when it was delivered the delivery guys noticed out Samsung refrigerator. One ask how long have you had that. I said about three years. He said “you got one of the good ones”. They told me they picked them up all the time less than a year old. The ice maker breaks and you can’t get parts to fix them. Both of the delivery guys told me when not if the ice maker dies don’t waste your time and money trying to get it fixed.

Thought process for putting the bucket on the ladder is it allow the pump to have to pull a little biit , then it is has some pressure helping it pull out the bucket, think siphoning

Did you make sure you had flow to other faucets?

If you have good shore power place two or three drop lights with 60 watt old style bulbs in the refer. Been doing that for years, no problems.

Like Jeffba, I just kept hitting the recycle button for the ice maker until 2 full trays of pink stuff came out. When spring comes, we just run the ice maker for two days, with a little bleach in the tank, dumping the ice, and then, ice comes back just fine.

You definitely want to cycle the i/m enough to get the pink into the cube mold. If you do not do this and the freezing temps are low enough, the blue plastic i/m fill valve will crack thus creating a huge mess and repair headache later.

Although it is rarely required to winterize here on the SE coast of NC we just take the Montana farther south for 3-4 months and live in it. When I lived up in Yankee Land I built a heated shed for the 5er and boat. Both ways are preferable to the pink stuff.

The easiest way to winterize that refrigerator is to spend your Winters in Florida or here in Arizona!
