Trailer Life CD

I just received my 2005 Trailer Life RV Parks & Campground Navigator.

At first look I am not sure I care for it. Anyone else tried it? What is your impression?

I use Delorme Street Atlas and Topo USA. I like each. Maybe it is the familiarity that I lack with the Trailer Life issue.

At first I had a severe problem with using this CD. I could not locate a city to add to the route. When I sent an email I got the following response:

Go to this web link and it will have the solution for your problem...

http://www.undertowsoftware.com/Supp...0is%20not%20fo

I am pleased to report that by downloading the file I found there it did solve the problem. I liked the original TL CD better than the one just before this. I have not used this one enough to know exactly how I feel about it, but I do believe it is better than its immediate predecessor.

Another thing I don't care for and maybe I just don't know how to view it is:

When planning a route, I do not see where fuel stops, rest stops, end of day stops are predicted to be.

Is this the two c/d set. I received and email about that one and was wondering if anyone had it. If all it shows is campgrounds then it isn't any good. Would be interested in hearing from anyone that has used it.

I tried it when they first came out with it and I didnt like it and put it in the trash, a couple years later I tried again it hadn't change that ended up where the other one was.
I do believe that what we have here on the RV net gives me every thing I will need and it will always or should be current and up to date.
I will not throw my money away on the CD program again.

I just got the 2 CD set. I think that the route program needs to be viewed with a paper map to confirm the route. I tried to route from Ely (my home) to Albuquerque, NM. Route may be valid but it sure looks wierd that it went way up to nearly Provo and then down to NM. The wierd part is that it routed me north of I70 and then down without ever traveling on I70. Not saying this is not a good route but I wouldn't have chosen it.

I do think that the CD set does have all the campground info included.

Waiting to hear from some other more experienced users of this set.

I just tried the program with exactly the same results. However, by typing in one 'via point' (Holden, UT) I got a route using US 50 which does seem to be a better route, even thought it does zig zag pretty sharply North and South. I suspect that is the reason the program provided the other route. However, I agree that this program does not seem to do a very good job of route selection. [The route through Holden shows to be 750 miles vs 795 the way the program originally calculated the route.] This said, I have never allowed any program [I have several] to dictate my route. I always set 'via points' to force the route I prefer. The primary value of this CD is the campground information and the fact that it easily allows campgrounds to be the start and destination points for a trip.

After some research, I think this CD was intended for those without GPS or at least experienced GPSers. I bought the very first campground CD from them and have used it a lot. I ordered this new one (trial) because it has been several years since we've had a new campground directory and I thought it was about time. I use Map Quest a lot and sometimes Yahoo - I always get a different route between these two so that tells you maps being used out there are not always accurate. I've bought government maps to use in demographic programs and they are never, ever perfect.

Hi Everyone,

Like everyone else I think it stinks. I liked the one from last year, you could move the pins around and choose your own route. Maybe I am just a dummy and don't know how to use it. Also do you know if you can use this with the Delorme GPS?

Thanks,

Bill & Rita
