Extended run gas tanks for Honda and others

We made ours out of a 6 gallon marine tank with marine quick-disconnect hoses. If I had to do it over, with the carrier that we made, I would probably use 5 gallon plastic gerry-cans with a notched feeder hose inside (the notch is to keep the end of the hose from getting into the corner and preventing fuel flow). The upright cans would be easier to transport.

That being said, we use the marine tank and a two gallon gas can. We actually use the small gas can more often than the marine tank; the latter is used most often when we're either staying for a few days or if it is hot and we need to run the air so that our dog stays comfortable. With both gens running full bore, we get about 14 hours out of the marine tank with full gen tanks (almost 8 gallons).

Michael, I had already thought of using a different gas can, but only if it fits my truck bed, which i think it will. I don't want to give up my bike carrier, or would build a rack like yours.
I like Toms's set-up on his truck bed.

Something else that I might mention if your truck is gas. At the end of the year or during long shut downs of gens, you might want a gas can that you can put a spout on. Just so if you are in a pinch, you can pour the old gas out or if your truck runs low. I know I had to do this once up in the high county in Wyoming. 6 gal. got me back to town. I carry a long pointed plastic funnel, like they use for putting in transmission fluid. This is what I would change on the next tank that I make..JB

It is a high quality billet aluminum cap.They must have found other distributors because I went right to their home in Elk River Minnesota and picket it up. Steve (sfish): I see you made a duplicate posting (it happens) along with another posting containing a typo in this topic. Both of these are easily correctable.

I have the California model of Honda EU2000. I understand they have a different gas cap on the genny than what's provided most other places. I wonder what affect these modified caps have on whatever the California requirement happens to be? If I ever find out how to handle this difference, then I'll post it unless someone else has already done the homework.

I like this extended fuel system, but since we don't boondock for long periods, we use our gennys for emergency power and these haven't lasted any longer than 4-6 hours max and the 1 gallon fuel tanks have been sufficient so far.

One of these days when boondocking becomes more desirous and long-term genny use is needed, I'll also get the water bladder/pump, and tote tank and we'll be boondockers. I wish we could get out to the Quartzsite Monty Circle in January for some ideas, but the schedule is just too tough that time of year. We're trying for an overnighter/weekender kind of visit because we only live 200 miles away. But if the time is not there it might as well be 2,000 miles away - *sigh*

Got my gas line connectors today, I ordered the yamaha quick disconnects, i like the design and the Brass male connectors, went with the squeeze bulb and 7" hose. Need to assemble, but have to get more hose, Brass tee, maybe a filter.
