Estimates for Extended Warranty

We are looking at getting an estimate from Good Sam Club for an extended warranty for our 2005 Montana. Have never purchased one and guess we are lucky that we haven't had any problems. Is Good Sam a good place to purchase an extended warranty? What other companies can we get in touch with for an estimate? What should I look for in an extended warranty, are they all about the same? Pros and cons of companies would be greatly appreciated.

We have ours through Good Sam...we have not had to use the plan; however, we have heard from others that Good Sam responds well. The cost for an estimate: 0.

If your trailer is still under the factory warranty I would not advise you to purchase a extended warranty yet. If you have a problem the extended warranty co. will cover nothing because you are still under the factory coverage. Do some homework and choose one that has a good business track record. I know of a few that have went out of business and trying to get things done and paid for has to go through a holding company.

I felt we paid through the nose for our policy. However, I checked with GS and they were higher. I can't recall the company we went with, but our dealer recommended it, along with going with the $50 deductible. I get time to dig out the policy, I'll edit this post later.

This is very timely for me as the dealer mailed and phoned us about an extended warranty yesterday. Our factory warranty is up in April. He quoted Easy Care 5 year plan, $50.00 deductable for $996.00, regular price $1606. He stated this price is good through 12/31/10.

I checked GS, about the same price for only 3 yrs coverage, $100.00 deductable.

We had Easy Care coverage on our previous Montana and never used it. Since I am now retired, this Montana will get much more use, so EW may be worth the peace of mind.

Please do your homework. Read any contract and completely understand what is or is not covered and the terms of the contract. Understand these are NOT warranties like the Ford ESP plan. They are more like service contracts that cover certain failures under stated conditions. It is the buyers responsibility to completely understand the terms and conditions. Do not buy because it is cheaper than another. Buy because you understand the contract and it meets your needs.

We have a Rv shield Service contract purchased through the Warranty experts insurance agency at a cost of 1,014.00 for a 7 year contract purchased in November of 2006.

we have received back over twice that amount in repairs since the manufacturers warranties expired. One holding tank replacement can be 1,000.00.

Agree with Rich, the "low ball" bid might sound good when writing the check, but service down the road might be another matter altogether! There have been a number of these ESP companies go out of business in the very recent past...their low bid did not do anything for their policy holder, except take their money and run.

We have Good Sam's CSP with $200 deductible. We pay $53.00 per month and have had it since March 2009. It has been very good to us. We had major repairs on our living room slide when the slide mechanism broke loose from the slide. We also have had the gray water tank replaced and some other things at the same time. All it cost us was the $200 both times.

I have a Good Sams and they work well with you. Used it for a gray tank and one of the hydraulic pistons replaced 50 dollar deductable, no problem.

Our plan is through Assurant. Like I said, I think we paid through the nose. Our plan is what is called "Gold Medallion" with a $50 deductible. Total for 84 months was $1980. I got a quote from GS, and it was over 2 grand for the same coverage.

Not to bad Will. we paid 1100.00 for a 7 year contract, 50.00 deductable in 2006 through RV Shield. We have alrady used far more than that just in our 3 holding tank replacements.
We saw the replacement for our Dometic Fridge at C.w yesterday at 1384.00 Club price.

The key phrase in your post is "I got a quote from GS, and it was over 2 grand for the same coverage" you can cheaper coverage but what does it cover.

Thanks Will for taking the time to look up who your policy is with. So far I have only tried Good Sam and the quote they gave me is for a year. Guess when your 5th wheel is 5 years old, you are not offered a multi year policy. I will also look into Assurant for a quote.

I suspect the pricing considers whether the coach and appliances are still under warranty. Rich got his on a brand new rig for $1100 for 7 years. We waited until the rig was 3 1/2 years old. I checked several and got the best deal from Good Sam. We're paying 420.23 per year. The rate is guaranteed for 3 years. Last week we renewed for a second year. We have a $200 deductible. So I think the rate considers the warranty.

We got the service plan after paying about $1100 for a mobile service to replace a ruptured black tank by a mobile service in weather in the teens. The tank itself was just $134 including tax and shipping. The rest was the labor and replacing ruined insulation in the belly plus some connections that had to be replaced. We have not used the plan in the first year but I'm sure glad we have it.

Our refrigerator cooling unit gave out about a year and a half ago. We were on the very last day of the original Dometic warranty so it cost us nothing. But I saw the bill. The cooling unit parts cost was $990. Plus labor.

Steve is correct. When we purchased our Warranty we were still within then Manufacturers 1 year warranty and many appliances had another year or two of warranty left. Actual full coverage on all covered items did not become effective till the 3rd/ 4th year so in reality although we paid @157.00 per year for a 7 year warranty for the first 3 /4 years depending on what broke it was not yet covered.On the 4th year everything was covered so the real cost was 1100.00 for 4 years coverage or 275.00 per year. BTW The holding tanks were under a 1 year warranty.Hydraulic cable 1 year warranty. Cost does depend on when youn purchase the coverage.

Just be careful re: who can do the work on the rig. Our extended warranty was letting us use mobile RV techs., then all of a sudden we have to use someone from an RV dealership. Mobile techs are usually all over, but the RV dealerships for the most part do not have mobile service. That is OK unless you fulltime and still work as is our situation. It is not an easy chore to unhook (esp. in winter) and go to a dealership just to have them tell you they have to order the part and have to come back again.
