Fresh water tank

Hi. I heard from another source that manufacturers don't recommend towing with the fresh water tank full. Is this a fact? Not going far and it would be so much easier to fill the tank at home.

I almost always towed with a full tank of fresh water and never had a problem. Some others do not like to carry the extra weight.

I almost always tow with mine at least half full for those roadside stops since we always use the restroom in the trailer rather than public restrooms.

I carry mine at 1/3 full (for immediate use), then fill it in the "last 500 yards" if needed. It's an extra stop, but gives me a little peace of mind when crossing rough roads and speed bumps.

We tow with about a 1/3 or so full as well. Don't find the need for much more.

If it's not too far I'd guess you'll be OK. The tank is thin walled,expands, and sags down quite a bit when it's totally full so you can imagine what goes on when traveling down the road. There isn't much holding the tank in if you ever drop the belly pan down to put an eye on it. There is a step molded on the tank itself that supports it between two metal crossmembers and usually a couple of light gage metal straps run under the tank and are screwed to each crossmember. I too only run with maybe 1/3 tank or less.

We've traveled with a completely full tank several times when intending to dry camp for several days. For regular trips & even overnights here and there, less than a half tank works fine. Never had any problems either way.

We previously had 4 different SOB's and now our Monty and we have always towed with the fresh water tank full without any issues.

Tow half the time with a full tank for thirty years and never a problem, if I know I'm going to an RV park I travel with a 1/3 tank.

Thanks so much for the info guys. We went ahead and filled up at home but I can certainly see why we wouldn't need a full tank. I'm not sure what the capacity of the fresh water tank is but I honestly haven't searched to far yet to find out. This is our first trip with our new to us Montana. Loving it so far!

According to the specs for your year and model on the Keystone site you have a 60 gallon tank.

I read several articles about RV water usage. You use more water daily than you might think? Also make sure that pipes and tanks are flushed properly if that's your main source of water. Plus in medical emergency's it might come in handy to plenty of fresh clean water. I never travel with less than 3/4 full thousands of miles, never know when you might need it. Just FYI.

We travel with very little water in the tank. Always headed to a park, don't see any point in lugging all the weight if it's not needed. We carry enough for the toilet and carry two gallons of potable water in jugs.

We boondock a lot and have always traveled with a full water tank. If you ever break down and have to stay at the dealership like we have you will be glad that tank is full and the holding tanks are empty.

We travel with a least a half tank. Sometimes full, and the one advantage is given the location of the tank - it actually reduced the weight on the truck (hitch).

This may sound really stupid.. we have a 2017 3661 RL ....I have looked everywhere and do not see anywhere to fill the fresh water tank... any help.?? Sorry
