Just Picked-up our 3160RL Montana

Hello to all. Finally took delivery of our ordered 2018 Montana 3160RL Legacy. Really love all the space and comforts. This is our 6th 5er! (owned 2 Jaycos, Sundance, Sabre and ORV Glacier Peak) Currently going through the 5er personalizing and trying to figure where everything is.
Not crazy about the iRV34 stereo and can't find the fresh water dump valve (I assume it has one).
We are from Folsom, CA and generally travel to the Sierras or the coast. I am retired but my wife is still working. Most of the time she is able to work from home if not traveling. We are hoping to venture-out a little further like AZ, NV, UT and OR.

I noticed there is a large gathering of campers in Arizona during the Winter. How does one go about signing-up for this? Be a great way to meet fellow Montana owners.
Thanks again.

Hi congrats my fresh water dump is to the rear closest to driver side it should be a hose coming down with a removable cap. Mines a 2016 3160rl legacy. Good luck

Congratulations on your new 3160 and happy roads to you. Do it come with Sailuns?
Also do the new ones have a receiver?

My favorite of the Montana campers.
Tom is right if it didn't come with G rated tires you need to get them before one of the standard ST tires burst and takes the side off your camper.

Welcome to the forum. My 2017 still has the hose with cap in the back street side corner. Later in the year there should be a thread to sign up for the gathering in Quartzsite.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome. Yes to both questions. It came with Sailuns - I did not want the other tires.
The receiver is too small though. It measures 1 1/4" inside measurement. I have not researched yet but I noticed each side is bolted to frame. Am thinking about taking off and having a welder make a new, beefier one with 2" receiver. I already have a bike carrier and a luggage rack with a 2" hitch.
Thanks.

I plan to put a "real" hitch on mine as soon as it's out of warranty. I don't trust that flimsy factory hitch with anything.

You got the info on the fresh water dump; I removed that cap fitting and put on a valve.

My 2017 came stock with Sailuns.

Congrats on the new 5er. We are still exploring our options but leaning towards the Montana 3810MS. I noticed that you had previously owned a Glacier Peak and was wondering if you could comment on your experience with it.

A little history for this request. We were on vacation in Wyoming and we took my sister and BIL to their RV dealers to help them get the bug and show them what we were interested in. A salesman walked up and started bad mouthing the larger 5ers and really was plugging the Glacier Peaks. We took a brochure but I don't see the advantage for the GPs.

Thanks for any reply

Hi Rick07. I replied to you with a long-winded explanation but lost it when I tried to post. We are leaving for Lake Tahoe but return tomorrow. I'll try to reply to your question tomorrow afternoon.

Hi Rick07. It's tough making a decision. Every time we purchased another 5er we got what we always wanted but then notice other things we missed. Guess there's no such thing as a perfect RV. Anyway, I looked at the GP as being our last 5er. for retirement and travelling with my DW and the kids gone. My wife finally told me she just did not like it primarily because of the tight spaces. The slides are small, the wardrobe slide in bedroom could hardly even hold coats or sweaters and the bed did not slide so there was no closet space at the front. I hated that. I really think this unit was more for weekend getaways versus extended stays.
The 5er has good bones, has excellent frame, suspension components, insulation, and good sized tanks (owned by Northwood, who makes the Artic Fox. They purchased an old Fleetwood plant and started-up Outdoors RV.) My 5er came out of the first run (bleeding edge) and it had plenty of minor problems - two schwintek slides leaked, got mold in the bedroom and wardrobe. The factory made good and replaced most of the slide. At the same time I had front cap replaced since the dark color went dull at their cost $500. Most of glued joints and tape came undone after baking in the California Summer heat while in storage. Had to screw and glue most of the ceiling panels and trim. I noticed they now have a Titanium model which might address the size issue and some have a bedroom slide with closet in front.
Anyway this is my $.02 I also noticed their pricing went way up. I would not be surprised if their Titanium models are as pricey as the Montanas. I really like our Montana (have not used yet) but even after we got the Legacy, was really surprised to see some areas where they "cheaped-out". Crappy stereo with no speakers in Kitchen, LR area - just a cheap soundbar. The basement lights are not LED, a very short tube to store sewer hose in, and a flimsy "bike rack". I am addressing all these areas. Also had to upgrade to a 1 ton GMC. Sold my beloved 06 LBZ that had only 58k miles.
The big plus is all the basement storage and nice bedroom. Funny thing - we could not find enough room in LR and kitchen that we had stored in the GP and that was only 30 feet. Good luck if you have not made a choice yet.
