Savannah/Charleston RV Park Suggestions

We are headed to Savannah, GA and also Charleston, SC. Does anyone have a suggestion for RV parks? No kids with us, so don't need a resort just a place to park so we can tour the towns.

James Island County Park in Charleston. Nice park and close to everything.

Hardeevillerv.com. We used this park last year to visit Savannah and were very pleased. Only about 15 minutes from downtown and is an easy drive.

When we visited the Charleston, SC area the last couple of times, we stayed at the Mt. Pleasant KOA. It was a nice park and just a few minutes from downtown Charleston.

James Island in Charleston is terrific, especially if you travel with dogs - huge dog park available on a lake. In Savannah we stay at Red Gate RV; recommend sites B1 for shade or B3 for view. Very convenient to downtown.

The last time we tried Hardeeville, it was full of construction workers working in Savanna. It may not be now.

James Island County Park is our favorite in Charleston. Love being nestled in amongst the oaks and moss. Free shuttle to downtown area also.

My parents were just at Mt Pleasant KOA and gave it very high marks. Not shaded like James Island but very nice walking trails around the old rice plantation and the site they were on was an end site that was huge.

Shuttle is not free anymore from James Island fyi but very close to Charleston. We stayed there this spring. Our only concern was the rds into the cg looked low but we did not have any trouble. We would stay there again.

We spent three nights at Savannah Oaks RV Resort while touring Old Town Savannah and the 8th Air Force museum last month. It was very adequate and very convenient to the tourist areas of Savannah, as well as not to far from I-95.

We are late to the party but we are workamping for the City of Tybee Island real close to Savannah. The RV park is beautiful and we work hard to keep it clean. We are close to beaches and the park offers a large pool, store, laundry and bath houses. Website is riversendcampground.com

The Mt. Pleasant KOA was great for us a few years ago. One day it must have rained all day but with the sandy soil, no mud and the water just disappeared! Also easy shopping for food at nearby stores. Near Savannah we stayed at a campground--I will have to look up the name--but the 50A receptacle were mounted upside down! Still worked but our cable came out the top of the receptacle--looked strange--have never seen that anywhere else in 10 years of travel. Both cities are great places to tour and visit--have a great trip and enjoy the seafood.

You should visit St. Simons and Jekyll Islands about an hour south. There is so much history and gorgeousness!!! I lived on St. Simons and love that part of Georgia.

Once again great info. from great folks!! I would ten times rather ask on here for park recommendations than take a chance on an online review site!

If your traveling to Arkansas, I can make recommendations for my home state as we have stayed at a very large number of parks here.

Like I am sure many of you do, we have a book that we keep our information on best and useable sites at each park we visit. We have had to update a lot of our information as our new camper is MUCH larger than our previous unit but it does help to have that info when making reservations!!!

In Charleston, James Island is a good one but it fills fast; make your reservations asap. Oak Plantation is another. If you are military, the famcamp on the AF base next to Charleston Airport is good as is the rv park on the Naval Weapon Station at Goose Creek North of Charleston.
