We have sprung a leak
Hi guys and gals,
We are having a leak under our steps into the bedroom. Rather than tear the entire Montana apart..... The leak is in the left front corner of the steps. The floor under the stairs are dry, water lines are dry, no evidence of a leak. He checked bathtub connections no leak. We are in #143 and have a 3400 RL.

sounds like a leak when you back flush, the line is in the wall behind the shower, the pressure releaf valve is prone to leaking.. did on ours, had to put a new hole in the back of the pantry to get to it and fix.

Jim,
We are at the rally and haven't had to empty the black tank. Not sure if you are talking about when you clean the black tank out and use the sprayer to clean the inside????

yep, what i meant. we also had a leaking shower drain that went where you indicate, had to fix that too. oh, forgot, took off the white access panel in the basement so you can see the piping in the utility panel, about half of my fittings were leaking. Had to replace a bunch of cone washers and just tightened the rest. That was 3 years ago, no further trouble. you could also have a leak in the washing machine plumbing. the water runs into funny places depending on how level you are.

your leak is coming from your toliet. open the square on the back side of the toliet. the part that makes the toliet flush is loose or broken. we had the same leak. i found it for my husband. then we replaced it and the leak stopped. you can dry out the steps and the floor with a fan blowing on it.
oh, be sure to check the over outside for the refrigerator sometime. you may see another leak coming in from the kitchen slide.
welcome to our world.

I would possibly suspect the shower, but not the toilet. The wet area is as you are looking at the steps, on the bottom side of the step, left as you are standing in front looking to go up the stairs, the carpet is wet for about an inch up the step and an inch from the side onto the floor carpet. It is not on the toilet side. As Coleen pointed out, there is no evidence of water anywhere else.
It's time to pull the basement access panel off and look at all the plumbing.

It sounds just like what happened to me. Water in same place. It was a loose fitting to the water pump. Just had to tighten it up.

My first choice would be the vacuum breaker Jimf first mentioned. Good luck with it.

Ozz,
Bob cut a hole in the pantry and has looked at the plumbing in there. They state there is no water. Is the vacuum break between the pantry wall and the shower wall?

that's where the vacuum breaker is, and normally you can't see the sucker leaking unless you pressure it up, also they seem to leak some of the time, not all of the time. we had fits with ours, i finally banged the heck out of it and it quit leaking. technical tap.

We had the same wetness in the step area. It was the black tank back flush check valve leaking. It is behind the pantry wall on our rig. Bob cut a hole and replaced it with a spare George Person (Jaybird) happened to have.

We have had leaks in that location three times from three different locations.
1. Loose connections to the shower faucet under the tub.
2. Loose connections behind the water connection center, including to the water pump.
3. The black tank flush anti-siphon valve.
Colleen and Bob, when we do the photo thing maybe we can talk this through and see what we can find.

Bob tore apart the convenience center at the rally and found yet another connection lose. This time it was just a connector coupling that had loosened. He fixed it and the step is dry.
Now if he could figure out why the toilet pipe is leaking and fix it we would be dry. I think the toilet thing has everyone puzzled.
Sure made for interesting conversation at the rally... hee hee.
Thanks for all the help everyone. MOC truly is the best!!

We had a similar leak recently. Turned out the reason it was leaking was because we had the flush hose hooked up to the rig. The water was on at the faucet but off at the place it attaches to the rig. The control valve was mostly turned off but just enough water was leaking to cause the check valve to leak! We discovered this, of course, after we had changed out the check valve! Once we disconnected the hose no more leak. Just a thought. It does not sound like you have the flusher hose hooked up so that could not be your problem. Just passing on some info.
Good luck.
Later,
Dennis

Dennis,
No we didn't have the hose hooked up, but thanks for posting about your problem. The more ideas people have about where to look sure helps the next person down the line.
