New here

Hello all,

Been full timing for 3 yrs now in my 2015 3440RL Montana. I'm navy and will soon be moving for the first time with my fifth wheel. It was delivered to my site by the dealer. I will be pulling it all the way to Mississippi with my 2016 2500HD Silverado with an Anderson ultimate fifth wheel hitch 2. Any advice on moving for the first time would be appreciated. I am also a do it yourselfer, any maintenance tips or repair tip will be great.

V/R,

Gabe

Welcome to the forum, ex navy also. Take it slow and easy, read up on maintenance and torque your lug nuts regularly. Be safe.

Check your tire pressure and if you have the standard Marathon ST tires replaced then with a set of G rated tires. The Marathon tires are called China Bombs for a reason. Even new they will blow out and do thousands of dollars damage to your camper. Tires are probably the no one topic around here in the summer.

Welcome to the forum.

I am bubble head plankowner. From where you are moving to I would think you are serving on what we called targets. We have the same year and model of coach. Removing the OEM tires was our first modification. Ours came with Trailer Kings. Make yourself a checklist and double, triple check the items on your list before you pull out. We just got the AUH installed and I am very pleased with tow ride vs the Reese Pro we had. Check the torque on ball. Best of luck with your move and thanks for your service.

You say you are a do it yourselfer-- if you can check the bearings and repack them, it would be advised since the unit has been setting this whole time in one spot. The other advise is that you replace any OEM tires that may have come on the unit UNLESS they are Goodyear G614s. I would guess that the tires are Trailer Kings and are the same as Marathons and better known as "China bombs" because they are E series and you need G rated series on your unit to be safe. Goodyear makes them and so does Sailun. Sailuns are much cheaper than the Goodyear G614s so it is up to you on your purchase. Keep your speed relatively low 60-65 mph while going down the hiways and biways and you'll be in good shape. If you have not towed the unit before, I would suggest you also hook it up and take it to an open parking lot and practice turning, backing and parking the unit. This will give you some building of confidence for the trip to your new duty station. Good luck and thanks for serving!

Agree on the tires also check torque on all suspension and pin box bolts. When towing remember the fifth wheel will track inside more than a bumper pull.

Welcome to the MOC family from Washington St! Thank you for your service. Check the brakes, Bearings things tend to rust up while seten for some time also check all the tork on pin box & suspension bolts and yes its probably time for new tires.
