Direct tv

I will be switching to Directv from Dish,I think? On my Dish system I have an extra dish and I had my receiver from my stick house in the 5vr when we go for the winter to TX ,no question asked from dish network.. I see with directv you have to have all this waver stuff and register another receiver for the RV am I correct or can I just use one of the stick house Directv receivers and play no tell?

We have Direct TV with three receivers and when we ordered it we also got the stuff for our 5th wheel, dish, tripod and cable. When we leave we call and have two receivers shut off and take the one with us. When we get back we have the other two turned back on on. Going to do the same this year.

I've used DirectTV for years ... have both receivers registered in the stick house. When I go RVing, I just transfer one receiver to the fiver ... never called and told them otherwise ... never had any problems. I don't worry about spot beaming local channels as I just use the roof antenna to pick up whatever locals are available.

Like dieselguy says. just take one from the stick house and go. If you tell them you are in a Rv they wil be glad to charge you all kinds of extra money.

Things are changing and it is not going to be that simple anymore. The only receivers you can get from DirecTV now are HD either recordable HR20 or the non recordable H20 and they are leased from DirecTV. The only dish available is the SlimLine 5 lnb which is a bit larger than the 1 or 3 lnb.
I have one account and 4 receivers, 2 in the house "old ones" and 2 of the new HR20's in the Big Sky. The 2 in the Big Sky are "mirrored" same programs as the house and they charge $4.95 per receiver, the same as they would charge if they were in the house. DirecTV has them listed as being in the RV. DirecTV has sent up 2 new satelites which are to go online this month and much of the programing is going to change. From what I read all the HD channels are going to be on the new satelites and a 5 lnb dish is required to receive these. I currently have a 3 lnb for the Big Sky and will change to the 5 lnb as soon as they figure out what they are doing.
If you want to get network feeds you must have a separate account for the RV and fill out the waver, a considerable increase in cost.

Not sure why you would want to switch to Direct. Have used my Dish Network system over most of the good ole US of A without any problems. The programming for both systems is basically the same. Once I get beyond about 300 miles from the Houston area I lose the locals from Houston but use the bat wing to pick up the locals where ever I am. I just don't tell them what I am doing and they are yet to find me on the road and cancel any programming.

When I switched from Dish to Direct, I told them that I wanted 4 receivers of which one was going to be in the RV. I am charged 4.95 for each additional receiver but there are no problems with the receiver being in the RV as opposed to the house. I realize that Direct is going to the new HD dish this year but I am waiting until Direct upgrades my receivers rather than paying for an upgrade.

Direct has NFL games and now you can get the Big 10 channel,no more Big 10 on local TV. Dish has neither program. Wife likes football. This also got me a big discount on a new tv from circut city. Dish would not give me a deal on new equipment even though I have been a loyal customer for over ten years.

When we signed up for Direct we told them we were in an RV and travelled from Illinois to Florida each year. Didn't need to sign a waiver, nor did we have to pay any extra fees because we are in an RV. Will find out about this fall really soon as we don't really need them in the RV park in Fl.

I saw something on the internet about a FTA box that would get Dish. Anyone ever tried that? Wonder how you subscribe on a receiver that is not Dish? If I understand right, the FTA stands for free to air. I suppose it is like the old C band receiver.
