Bugs on the Front Cap

Good Evening All,

Just got back from a several week time of fun and brought back a GREAT number of dead bugs on the front cap. The question is, has anyone had bad luck when using bug remover in, around and on the Monty decals? I would hate to use something that deteriorated the decals only to find out that everyone else already knew I shouldn't be using it.

I use Bounce dryer sheets. New or used they work great and best I can tell they have no adverse effects on the decals.

I can second the Bounce fabric sheets. I have heard many folks talk about using them, and truth be told, I really had my doubts. After a 2400 mile journey and a few minutes of scrubbing I was getting no where. I figured I would try out the Bounce and see what happens. IT WORKS GREAT! Almost no scrubbing involved at all! I soaked the front cap, got the Bounce sheet wet and wiped off the bugs.

Rick, we have had great luck with this product and I first learned of it at Costco.
It removed the bugs off of my front cap very well.

Rick,

DONT - DONT USE THE BUG REMOVER. I did the first year (bug and tar remover) and I have permanent damage. Not to the decals, but to the plastic nose. Didn't show up till the next spring after the sun baked it for a while. It etched it you might say.

Brad, seriously try the Bounce sheets. They might not be magic but they're close. Sorry about your original damage but you won't do any additional damage with these.

Those frabric sheets are soaked in fabric softener. The cheapest brand of fabric softener and a sponge will work just as well, you may have to scrub a little harder..that awesome product you can buy at dollar stores will also melt bugs off the camper.

It's best to use the Bounce early in the morning when the dew has had a chance to soften the bugs. They jus melt off, otherwise wet it down good with a hose.

Glenn, is that all there is to it? Just wet it down, let it set a minute, and then wipe it with a Bounce sheet? Details please.

I like Charlie's idea...I always seem to be in a hurry and letting mother nature help out sounds like a great idea.
I'm an early riser anyway, so it would give me something to do when all is quiet.
I haven't tried the dryer sheets yet, but I can say Awsome does work well.

How about preventative medicine. What can you do so you can just "hose" them off? Wax the front, baby oil, PAM...?

I am a firm believer in Bounce especially after I wiped out half the love bug population in Alabama. One thing about using bounce. After you have wiped the bugs off, go back over with soap and water as the fabric softener does leave a film if not rinsed good.

Just another example of the wealth of knowledge in this forum. I've pretty much been letting the bugs stay after my experience with bug remover. Not in one million years would I have ever thought to try dryer sheets.

Thanks folks.

Lonnie, we may have embellished the dryer sheets just a tad.
Not all bugs have the same chemical make up and therefore some do require a little bit of elbow grease but for the most part it is just that easy. Like Charlie said, "It's best to use the Bounce early in the morning when the dew has had a chance to soften the bugs. They jus melt off, otherwise wet it down good with a hose." Yes wet it down but let it set a couple minutes.

I should also point out the sooner you get them off the better. Let them stay for a few days and the problem magnifies itself.

Like Brad, I had permanent damage on our prior Montana's nose from Bug Buster and similar products. The dryer sheets worked best for me. I even use them on the grille of the truck (something I saw Bill, of Adelmoll, doing). I also spray the nose first to wet the bugs, then scrub them off. It takes a little scrubbing sometimes but nothing like with other products. I do a section of the nose at a time and rinse that section right away. Otherwise I get a film dried on the nose and have to wash it anyhow. At least with the store brand dryer sheets I use.

First I wash with a long handled brush to scrub off the looser ones then go after the remainder with the dryer sheets. I've never seen a problem with decals from this method.

Mike, a good coat of wax does make the job easier. I also tried baby oil a few years ago when someone suggested that. The bugs did mostly come off far easier but I was pretty much forced to wash the nose at the end of every towing day. That baby oil tends to collect dust.

Bounce can be used for lots of other things too. We get mud daubers (wasps) in the awning (when rolled up) and lots of other similar places. They like to get in there and build nests. Put a partial sheet of Bounce in each end of the awning...no more problems.

Have heard say that dryer sheets work for keeping skeeters away. Can someone further describe that, we are not walking around with wet dryer sheets hanging from our pockets are we?? Will one just work, or do I need one for the shirt pocket and another for the pants??

Reason I ask, I tried on in my shorts pocket last time at the lake, well, did not work so good, so I figure I am doing something wrong.

Carol
