Insurance

We are still very new to this. Only 5 trips so far and only one that was over a week in length. We keep getting mail from Good Sams offering roadside assistance and insurance. I got insurance from the same company that does our cars and motorcycle. Do we need to get this insurance too? What do you experts say?

Thank you!!

RV insurance comes in many shapes and sizes. Talk to your agent and make sure it covers what you want it too. Pay particular attention to what they will pay if the rig is a total loss. There's many ways they figure depreciation etc. all of which affects the price. Bottom line, you only need one insurer. Full timing requires a different type of policy because you don't have an S&B providing blanket liability. Roadside assistance is another issue. If you have towing insurance with AAA or your insurance carrier or someone else make sure they will tow both your rig and your TV. I found out that even with "Premium" RV coverage our AAA in Kansas would not tow my rig. AAA in other states are different. I have Coach-Net for the rig and all our vehicles, have used them several times and like them. Good Sam will be sending you stuff until long after you die. If your shopping, it's worth getting a quote, otherwise send it all to the recycle bin.

In our case, significant difference re usaa auto insurance coverage vs progressive RV insurance coverage. A major factor is how you use the rig, ie weekend trips or snowbirding in Florida for months at a time.

I'll chime in re Coachnet. 1st Dicks advice is sage. In May in rural Arkansas,3 milks in on a forest service road I smashed my transmission cooler. Waked the 3 miles out and hitched a ride another 3 miles to get cell service. Called Coachnet, they sent a tow, 50 miles away, they called to check several times, great customer service. Could not get to me on the same road I came in on because I was blocking and no way around. Came in a different way, 6 miles of FS road, loaded me up and as it so happened the to company was right next to a Ford dealer. Accident i.e. User stupidity occurred at 10am and by 6 pm was at the Ford dealer. They were super nice, stole a trans cooler from a new truck did the R&R and was on the road by 10 am the next day. That was May 12th, day 2 of the trip I'm still on. For me Coachnet is everything that they advertise. My 2 cents

I'll check them out - I haven't heard of them. Great advice once again!! You guys are the best - Dick & Joyce, Mike & Lorraine, Scott & Fran!! Are you going to be at the rally this weekend? Hope to meet you!
I've sent an email to me agent asking about RV replacement costs and such. Now I need to ask about towing too!

Thanks!

We'll be missing it also. Work Camping in South Georgia starting the 1st of September so we're in the process of packing up and then starting August 15th heading that way.

Dick & Joyce,
You must love the heat - work camping in south GA. Middle GA is too hot for me..... If you stop in middle GA area let us know, maybe we can meet for dinner or something.
