Basement Space

Looking for efficient ways to use the middle area. I think that I have the space immediately inside the doors handled but not the middle. Can't imaging going thru the cost and trouble of putting in sliders so that is out. Need genius ideas since I am not one of them.

We did put sliders in, got the installation hardware for roughly $200, spent half a Saturday sizing, cutting 3/8 plywood, and installing. For us, well worth the effort.

From what I have heard, the problem with sliders, is they take up a fair amount of space. You lose space at the edge of the slider and also 2-4 inches of height.
I just put in some large plastic storage boxes in the middle with things I don't use much - our small propane grill, storage for the power cord such as 30/15 amp adapters, and other small things. I could actually squeeze in a couple of more boxes if I had some junk to store there.

I just put in a Morryde sliding tray. The ease of getting to those middle totes was worth it to my back. My tray does not take up the entire width of the basement due to convenience center interference. That leaves me additional space on the side for oblong storage. I also minimized the storage height encroachment by utilizing the space underneath the tray for storing flatter items. The trays are not cheap but super easy to install. I did it alone from the delivery truck to my basement.

In the very middle we use four of the plastic trunk size storage containers we got at walmart. They are made to stack and have wheels on one end so they are easy to pull out. They also come in different colors so we have them color coded.

This was easy to make. Just some light angle iron and thin plywood. On the forward bulkhead are hooks for broom, rake, and walking stick. Inside the box is a fold out table. Golf clubs on the left. The other side has lots of open space and a shelf for storage containers. Getting things off the floor as much as possible works well for me.

I installed the Mor-Ryde tray in my rv and installed it on 2x6's using L brackets on each side of the boards so as the boards would be stiff. As said this gives me some room underneath for storage also. I have found I don't lose near as much stuff with the sliding tray. Certainly more expensive than do it your self projects in the storage area but I feel this is the best for saving my back as I don't have to overextend myself finding things.

Hardware kit ordered thru Stromberg Carlson. Various sizes depending on what you want.. Surface material is your choice, separate purchase. No pictures.

Mine is 33x90, as the convenience center gets in the way. I put my electric cables under the drawer. normal and extra, broom, tiki torch poles, ..

on one side a small folding table and a large cardboard box for working on the ground.
on the other is my weber grill, some buckets

SO much better than digging thru everything

I use large storage bins (Home Depot) to hold items in the middle of my unit. Easy to get in and out and keeps stuff from rolling around when we're on the road.

Very clean compartment, looks like I'm going to camping world, I need to pick up a couple propane tank connectors anyhow.

Sliders and the associated plywood add a lot of weight. I use plastic bins with lids installed. I have two levels of plastic bins and am able to make full use of the full width of the basement.

I bought Sterilite "nesting" containers at walmart. They come in a couple different sizes and are stackable. With the handle on the lid they are easy to move around.
I put potable water fittings and such in one, sewer fittings in another, caulk and lubricants have their own container, parts, all my grilling tools with a roll of aluminum foil, etc...

That tote is nice...but I got the 2 pack rectangular food grade totes that are larger at Sam's Wholesale for the same price. Used one from shore cord and one for water hoses.

First thing I did on ours was fit cut a piece of good outdoor carpet to fit. That way, "milk crates" will not slide around. I do know that a lot of space in the top half goes unused but I do have a couple of tall boxes for water connection hose, etc that are almost the height of the basement. So far, at age 68, I have no issue crawling into the basement to fetch things if really needed. We have the pull-out tray in the garage that houses lightweight grill, chairs, and other bulky items.
