Slide Roof Scuff -- Critical?

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I've had a travel trailer for years. I am purchasing a new Montana 3120. In my first walkthrough I noticed a scuff (or something, see picture) on the door side slide roof. My perception is this roof should be completely smooth. I've asked the dealer to investigate and address before I close the deal. Being new to slides and rubber roofs, etc., I am asking your collective opinions how concerned I should be. Don't purchase this coach and move to another? Or is this something that might actually be normal?

Your feedback is appreciated.

Jim

Certainly not normal, the cause of the scuff needs to be identified as it appears that it was caused by the slide room extending/closing and scraping on an obstruction in the opening. If the cause isn't identified and corrected, the scuffing will occur every time the slide is extended/retracted.

Replace or walk lots of Montana’s out there for sale!
If dealer replaces make sure it’s 100% covered under “new” warranty.

Thanks all for the input. Your tell me what I suspected but need to know for sure. We are rather far down the path with financing etc. all set, so I hope to get it replaced and fully factory warranted as suggested.

Rather than waiting for them to replace the roof membrane, I would tell them to bring in a replacement rig..

Agree with all of the above and more. Looks like it is rubbing on the slide opening and need to fixed and replace the rubber roof not patched.

Thanks everybody.
Dealer got up there and checked it out. Good news is the roof is totally fine. Turns out it was sealant, potentially spilled at the factory and smeared. They clean it up really nice and sent me a picture. Looks great.

Good news. You may want to look at the rubber seals and make sure none of the sealant is on them and affecting the seal

Picked up coach, scuff gone, thank you all

I picked up the coach yesterday. Haylett RV did a really nice job preparing the coach, addressing all my pre-purchase concerns, including the slide roof. They provided a thorough walkthrough. We owned a 50 year old vintage airstream for the past 22 years, so there were a lot of things like slides and auto leveling systems, as well as TV's and entertainment systems to understand.

We picked it up with our new Chevy Silverado 3500 Duramax. We picked that up from the dealer the night before. Haylett installed a new B&W Companion sliding hitch. Once we hooked it up, I don't think I will need the slide function much, but being a 5ith wheel newbe, I wanted the comfort level of having it.

I had about a 150 mile drive home. I was very impressed with out the 3120 towed. The Duramax has plenty of power to pass when necessary as well.

Thanks all for your comments and advice on pre-purchase concerns.

Jim

Mine did it to. Have 3 inch x 4 inch long rail road track in my floor.
Took pictures and sent to dealer. He has a repair company in Ft Collins,co. that will repair.
I can't be without camper for 5 weeks.
