Black Tank Valve Cable

Anyone changed cable for black tank valve on a 3720? Or similar. My cable broke today, have no idea if open or closed or partially opened. Assume if I can get to it I can at least operate it manually until I get a new cable. Are tanks in the drop down frame not in the upper frame? Will have to start investigating in the am. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The black tank is on the driver's side in the drop down area. It is easy to drop the back end of the coroplast to access it. Optionally, you can cut a flap in the coroplast to access and then seal it later with Gorilla tape. Look behind the wall in the storage compartment and you can see where the tanks and valves are located.

If the crimp on the handle housing that holds the outer cable cover comes loose the valve won't open or close and it feels like a broken cable. You can recrimp it or hose clamp a short piece of metal from the handle housing to the outer cover.

And yes you can operate manually once you have access. I replaced all four of my cable pulls with direct threaded rod pulls, never a problem again.

After 4 warranty failures my dealer changed both black and gray tanks to straight rods, never worked better now.

Found valve. How do you disconnect cable at valve? It's what I would consider enclosed. I see a one screw at the end of the housing, think that may let cable housing come out? Can you get just the cable for this type valve? At the very least I need to get the valve open so tank can be dumped. I already have a valve at termination as I have experienced the seepage surprise!

I was able to get a valterra cable from Amazon and "adapt" it to fit the factory valve in my 3100. Not much trouble really, just trimming the outside case to get the proper inner cable length. There was a screw at the end of the valve that you remove that will let you get to the Allen screw that crimps to the inner cable. The valterra cable is a solid cable instead of stranded like the factory cable, hopefully it will last longer. The end with handle is different as well and requires a little thinking when you start putting it all together. All in all not a hard job.

I wouldn't waste time trying to fix it, Just replace the whole valve with a Valterra valve. They work better. the factory valves are hard to pull and break like you have experienced.
